no orange difflock symbol?

I have the 4x4 info screen on my d3 (2007, tdv6 manual no rear difflock) but the few times I've tried the "special programmes" I get the open padlock symbol in a circle but it's not coloured i.e. just a black line drawn on a white background.

I don't have any fault codes for the transmission but is there a fault or am I doing something wrong?

I don't know specifically for the D3, but diff locks generally need to lock in, i.e. when you 'flick the switch' it wont immediately show as engaged, try going around some corners with a special program which activates the diff lock? Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Put it in low range, rock crawl, second gear, pull away. It'll lock up then IIRC.
