Steering wheel quality 08MY

The steering wheel on my GS is moulded rubber and it feels poor in comparison to the leather or leather like material on my previous Base 7. The stitching on the inner diameter has also gone. I’m hoping it’s a build error.

Any one else got a GS and what is on the other models as there is no option or upgrade in the brochure.

GS does have a rubber wheel now, used to fit leather ones.

They are available fairly cheap from Nick at Yeovil Thumbs Up

I saw a new TDV6 S a month or two ago in our local dealer and it too had a rubber steering wheel....it felt bloody awful (We don't get the XS/GS or whatever they're called, just plain-old S/SE/HSE).

They definitely used to fit them so I'm guessing it was some bright sparks' idea at LR to save 20 quid on a 30K+ car. (and at the same time leaving a lot of angry customers feeling like they'd bought a 7K pound Kia)... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Get in touch with simoniz, buy his wheel and swap it over.....you'll feel much better. Thumbs Up

I've mentioned it to my mate who works in LR. Will report back when I get the low down. Wink

Thanks Guys, I’ve been away over the weekend putting 400 miles on the clock so I’ve only just seen your replies.

So rubber it is then, cheapskates. I never thought to ask if there had been any potentially disappointing changes. I’m getting used to the wheel and as I don’t intend to keep it after 3 years I won’t be changing it. I will check the 2011MY Whistle

There are other subtle changes like the door closure is a bit ‘tinny’ but the best is the removal of the smokers pack. Gone are the ash tray and power socket covers to be replaced by 2 cr*ppy 12volt plugs and a next to useless storage space Embarassed

Mind you Bodsy space enough for my daughter’s Tigers band, we’ve missed our friends from down the road this year. See you next season.
