how to keep the nav lady silent - quickly ?

is there a shortcut - hopefully on the steering wheel - to silince the navigation messages ?

I know that it can be done through the nav menus on the touch sceen (by hitting the wee boxes in the bottom left) but is there a quicker way ? (sounds pathetic I know)

Pull the voice command lever on the steering wheel, and say in a commanding voice with a true BBC English accent "Navigation Voice Guidance Off"

(thats pronounced "Orf" as in "Orf with his head)

Will give that a shot - I must remember to keep a plum in the car to keep my accent in-tune.

Also, a good tip is to set the voice setting to English Female.

She is indeed much more obedient than that awkward old git know as English Male. Wink

I'm 99% certain I have a mute button on bottom right corner of nav screen. Mutes the voice but still get beeps to warn of approaching junctions.

It my favourite mode Thumbs Up
What if the "Hokey Cokey" really is what it's all about?

I thought that I'd tried that but everytime I pressed it it simply repeated the last instruction - I would like it to toggle between silent(or just beeps) and voice. I must admit though I've not had the car long and this was experiments while driving in traffic so I may have just done something screwy. I'll try again ...

I chucked the hand book at SWMBO and she sorted it in about two minutes. The Bird's stum now but I get beeps at turn offs.

I was wrong Embarassed

Just hauled my chisseled, muscular, sinewy mass out of the chair and gone outside to Disco Thud

Its a two button job. First press Nav Menu button in bottom left corner. Mute option is then in bottom right of THAT screen.

yes I think that this is probably the only way - as a quick fix you can always ramp down the volume then turn it off.

So no sweat - if this is the way then this is the way. Also like the speech recognition method - unfortunatly the kids cottoned-on to the concept of voice commands and all hell broke loose this eveing. OH BOY what have I done !!

That one does that, you need to go through the settings page there is an option there
