Are you 100% sure they're the same ratio? If they are, yes it might fit, but you certainly wont be able to connect the electronics and have a functioning locking differential.
It will need a wiring harness from a D4 along with the ecu and a subsequent change to the car config. Bear in mind, the harness needs to go from the engine bay to the rear axle inside the vehicle so it's a massive carve up.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

In that case, yes should be fine, check the part numbers though to be 100% sure. Do the faults relate to the actuator and sensor rather than the diff? It seems like a lot of work to replace the diff if it's a sensor fault.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

I'd try the sensor first, then see if you've got any play in the diff once that's fixed. It might be worth refurbishing the new diff first before installing it so that you know it will last.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Think I have done something bad to it as I’ve filled it from the wrong hole and the bolt I took out was a hexegon one with a 2-3 cm shaft on it like in this pic but the outter bolt didn’t look like that though looked like a filling bolt and it looks like
It holds something in place
