Can't connect to the FBH

Hi there,

I'm sorry if the answer to this is posted somewhere else, but I have searched and can't find it.

I'm trying to connect to the FBH but I must be doing something wrong, so need help please!

So far this is what I've done:

Bought an FBH wiring diagnostic loom from the site shop.
Removed the plug from the heater and replaced it with the loom plug.
Plugged the white ODB plug into my blue KKL VAG.COm ODB cable which is connected to my laptop.
Checked that the COM ports are the same on the Webasto Software and Device Manager (COM3)
Put the little blue wire on the loom into pin No.5 (on the plug removed from the heater).
Connected the positive and negative wires to the battery.
Started up the Webasto software (V 2.14).

And nothing...

All I see is a dialogue box that says WTT initialising but nothing else.

Can anyone help tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Read this post it might help, but are you sure its pin 5 normally its pin 2 that you connect to, to get comms to the heater.

Hi Flack, thanks for your reply.

I've looked a that page, but I think the loom I have bought connects to terminal 2 via the orange wire. I'm following these instructions.
http://media.disco3.co.uk/docs/FBH%20Diagn...s%20v3.pdf

I'm wondering if I its the settings on the Webasto Software that need changing?

See what you mean in the link Flack. Instructions told to use when connecting my lead were definitely pin 5. This works fine.

Hi Rob9990,

Which settings do you use to connect to your FBH?

It seems you can select a heater type (I picked Thermo Top V) But you can also select a protocol too.

And do you know what the blue wire does anyway?

Cheers,

Matt

Matt I connect up exactly the same as you ( no idea what blue wire does just do what I'm told. Haha)
Open software
Select thermo top v
Software then goes to main page
Then as flack has said select park heater
I normally run diagnostics 1st then clear faults followed by park heater.
Only difference is I'm using v3.14 software. I couldn't seem to download v2.14 for some reason.

Thanks for the replies.

It's the 'select park heater' bit I'm either not seeing or I've missed. I'll try again in the morning as it's a bit dark now!

I tried it all again and still no joy. Those menu options are greyed out to me so I can't select them.

I think the problem is with the windows driver. I've deleted the driver but can't get that to reinstall now!

Arrrggg.. Big Cry

Did you try running diagnostics first ?.
Windows 7 and above should download the driver automatically for the vag lead.

Diagnostics in Windows or Webasto Thermo Test?

When I plug in the cable, Windows 7 tried to find a driver for it but fails. I've tried the software that came with it on a mini CD but that hasn't worked either.

I'd pull my hair out, if I had any!

Diagnostics on thermo test software.
Didn't get any software with my vag lead and pretty sure you don't need it.
Have you looked in device manager with the vag lead plugged in ? It should tell you if the driver is working ok.

P.s. Are you letting the car go to sleep before connecting ?

My PC can't find the driver for it. I'll try another one and see if I get any better results.

Could be that the cable is faulty I suppose?
