Is it time to close D5 on D3/4 |
|
As title suggests is it time to close this part of the forum? The D5 does not belong here. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I think it is time for people to accept that some like the D4 and some like the D5. Personally I’m fed up with all the petty bickering and winding up. If you have a D5, RRS, Evoke, Velar, Defender or Volvo or whatever and you are happy with it then I’m very pleased for you, you don’t need to justify your purchase to me and should be happy in your own choice that you don’t need to keep whining ng people up about it - it does make it a very tedious place to be. +1
The D5 has been out for over a year and people have made up their minds whether they like it or not .
This sub forum was good when it was all speculation about what it might be, but it has served that purpose and all the informative info is now on Disc05.
RIP.

There’s plenty of space for them to go mumble and snigger amongst themselves, out of harms way, elsewhere:
https://disco5.co.uk/forum/thread1234.html
so it’s probably time to shut it down here 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

I find it quite amusing that a FFRR owner calls D5 owners 'them' and wants the section removed
I'll agree if there is no further discussion on any other marques\models

But where will the D5 haters go to continue to moan about the number plate, the rear seats or the "it's not a D3 / D4"? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Let’s not start that again but, if you ish to call us cone heads and knuckle draggers, then perhaps it’s for the best to do it elsewhere 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I have no opinion I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I’m not saying it needs to be removed I’m saying the opposite, but both “sides” need to grow up. I’ve been interested to hear people’s views when they are constructive but I think by now we don’t need to hear that it’s pig ugly, nor do we need to hear that the D3/4 is etc. There are enough of us on here that were early adopters of the D3 that haven’t bought D5s to suggest it is a marmite car as indeed was the D3 and maybe over time the D5 will be seen as a great design who knows? In the meantime I’d like to know about the good and bad of all models. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

That’s a good question.
Having driven Freeloaders, D4’s and the Full Fat and enjoyed every one of them, at heart, I see myself as a D3/4 kind of person, who just happens to be driving a Full Fat (that I must have borrowed from a rich uncle ) now that the original Discoveries are no longer made. And... if you hadn’t noticed yet, I’m fiercely defensive of them all, especially the D3/4!
Either way, every possible difference has been pointed out and discussed at length so there’s nothing new to add to that debate. I’m accepting that Land Rover have gone off at a tangent with the ‘5 and it’s not for me and many others, leaving a great many of us to buy something different next time. There’s nothing more to add to that now, so it’s probably time to agree to differ 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I think it's wrong to suggest that there are 'sides' between the two vehicles ....my D3\4s have given me some of the most memorable times of my life ...they were fantastic ... equally we have all spent considerable time discussing when they were not perfection ...and now I own a D5 and it's fantastic and just as enjoyable ....but it's not perfection.
I think if more people stopped measuring window aperture mm, window rake angles, non-existent views of junctions, worrying about rear end that they rarely look at and even when you do it does become a non-event .....and just bloody drove the damn thing ....they would appreciate it far more of as decent motor than just being able to offer a negative armchair opinion upon.

The issue for me is as much as I enjoy and embrace the banter ....many ex-D4 owners who transitioned to the D5 have, as a result of it's absolute demonisation here, not felt part of the 'them' and 'us' you refer to and which has historically existed between the various owners of LR models ...and that is quite sad IMO.
Shame.

Just so that you are aware, I have driven many of them since March 2017 and have even spent the last 5 days driving one and am pretty familiar with them and the way they drive. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

No it’s not Rich there are sides and you are just as guilty coming over as baiting the D5 haters. At what point would you not buy a car? Wrong colour, wrong size, wrong interior, wrong price? Surely this is a personal thing, I could not have an Evoke the waist is too high and rear view too restricted, does it make it a bad car? To me it does, but not to others and we’re both right. A lot of the armchair critics do seem to have driven the D5 and if they haven’t liked it then that’s their opinion and it’s no more valid than yours and no less.
