Strut Over Extended Replacing Lower Arm

I've eventually got the old front lower suspension arm off my D3 and while trying to fit the new arm into place the front strut is too low, as in over extended! I have tried a jack to lift it back up but I'm not having any joy Banging Head

Does anyone have any ideas?

At a guess, either deflate the airbag with IID or unscrew the air connector to the top of the shock.

While making sure any movement won't make the car unsafe.

I could only find the option to deflate all and now one side is super low and the other normal!!

I'm not sure how to re inflate it either as the switch in the cab won't work, just says suspension fault!

Okay, I managed to reenable EAS and get the suspension working again. However, the original issue still stands!

hi

had this issue when i fitted new front struts and drop links , this is what worked for me

remove the F26 fuse to stop the air compressor coming on , jack it up and put some axle stands under , remove wheel

undo the top strut voss nut on the air suspension

use a bottle jack under the bottom of the strut and jack it up slowly until it’s in line with ur lower wishbone , coppaslip ur bolt and push it in and torque up

think the sockets was 21 and 24mm , the 24mm is a deep socket

make sure u tighten the voss connector back up

when you’ve put the wheel back on and everything is tightened back up, put the F26 back in and start the engine , put into off road height , then lower to access then normal

in off road height u have enough room to bubble test the top voss connector

drive up the road and it will settle back down again

hope that helps but know ur also need the four wheel alignment done Thumbs Up

hi , ur very welcome

just using a spanner, think it was 12mm, only have to slightly slacken it off to let the air out , u will soon hear it Whistle

if u don’t wish to touch the voss connector , just use the iid to deflate that one corner or all of it, easy to reactivate the EAS again , that voss connector can be awkward to get onto , as there is a small support bracket nearby

once you’ve got the air out the strut it will move very easily with a bottle jack underneath the bottom of the strut , as it deflates if strut goes past the bottom wishbone hole just jack up the wishbone to meet it , hope that makes sense Thumbs Up

Thanks again for your replies Thumbs Up

There was no way I could get at the VOS connector, it’s well hidden away and felt a bit rounded off to me Mad

I tried to deflate only one corner but the gap app was glitchy so I ended up having to deflate all corners and then jacking the strut up.

My alignment is now a mile out so I need to get it done today! The garage is about 7 miles away so I hope my tyres aren’t shredded by the time I get there!! Shocked Laughing
