Turbo problem....actuator??? |
|
Hi,
2008 Discovery 3 Auto HSE 143,000 miles
I would be grateful for some advice please around a problem I currently have. I had the engine system problem message appear on my dash display. A call to the AA gave me the following codes:
P0101 Air - mass meter or air-flow sensor A Voltage above threshold
P045D Exhaust gas recirculation control B malfunction
P132B Turbocharger boost pressure control A Upper signal amplitude too high
Now I had the EGR's blanked and system remapped by JGS 4x4 last year and they have imformed me the EGR message is normal...it just no longer trips the warning light on the dash. I have replaced the MAF sensor with a shiny new one.
Looking at previous posts on here... the P132B message would appear to point to the Actuator Arm being the problem, however the posts on here also point to the accompanying symptoms of a loss of power and smoke yet mine still tanks along nicely with no smoke etc.
The system message doesn't come up on the dash all the time either. Tends to be fine from cold, pootling around doesn't generate it. You grab a cup of tea come out, fire it up, message comes up. Sometimes it comes up as you're driving around too.....It's doing my head in
It might be worth pointing out that our Discovery doesn't get a lot of use, only going out every other weekend to transport our autistic son and all his associated paraphenalia around the country roads of Northamptonshire.
Any ideas please? We're taking our son to Skeggy in it first week in July and it absolutely has to be working for that week. Am I looking at a new turbo? Am I looking at getting an actuator arm kit? Does the whole car have to come apart to fit the arm....as I've read differing views.
Thanks in advance for any help/info.

You should be able to drive it if you don't use loads of throttle.
You can also try lubricating the arm yourself thru the wheel arch if u like getting your hands dirty. Will also show you how bad it is.
Not a quick or easy job to change turbo

Strangely enough I just had to use it to pick up all my daughter's gear from uni in Nottingham so just thrashed it 100 miles up and down the M1. No error message....although I'm not stupid enough to think it's gone away. I even stopped to get diesel (stopping is normally the best trigger for the message to re-appear) still no message. I have to go to Luton tomorrow so another motorway thrash....I wasn't going to use it but I think I will and see what happens..... (famous last words....)

Has the butterfly valve been removed when you had it blanked, you say you have had it remapped, do you mean the egr's have been patched or a performance remap.
I would also expect to see both egr banks showing an error code and not just one if its been blanked properly .

Not sure about the butterfly valve, the blanking, patch and remap was undertaken by a reputable local 4x4 specialist so I'm presuming all was done properly. I've not had any issues since the work was undertaken and when I reported the message to them in my previous post they said that was normal. Do you think it's an egr issue as opposed to a turbo issue?
