Radio conversion Japan frequency to NZ

Hi

Does anyone know how to change the FM frequency band on a Japanese sourced D4 2010 ?

Cheers

I thought you had to change the country/region in the CCF settings with a suitable diagnostic tool?

As Robbie says. I believe my Bluetooth IIDTool has the capability to do this. Thumbs Up

Years ago I had an MG RV8 which was reimported from Japan and was fitted with a radio for the Japanese market which could only receive 76 to 90 MHz on the FM band.

This is a quote from the V8 Forum:-

Quote:
Frequency band extenders allow the signals from UK radio broadcast stations to be stepped down to the Japanese market waveband. One firm who supply these expanders, sometimes called converters, is Protech based at Nailsea near Bristol. They offer two different converters - first a standard 18 MHz model which allows a Japanese market radio to receive UK stations broadcasting in the 94 to 108 MHz bandwidth, and second a switchable 12/18 MHz unit which enables the full UK radio broadcast band to be received. Protech says "both units are made to our exacting standards and incorporate signal boosters for the best possible reception. They are quite simply the best available in the marketplace"

I fitted a switchable Protech converter which was excellent - I hope this may help.

I thought I would find a URL for these guys, but the one I have is no longer working.

The contact details are however:-
Protechnical Limited
23 Clevedon Road
Nailsea
Bristol
Avon BS48 1EW
Tel: 01275 859955

You will see that I got the company name slightly wrong.

It's possible that they are no longer trading in which case the simple expander should be available from:-

Clive Wheatley (01746 710810); or
Autocare (01278 789024)

The last price I had (2004) was £22.50 inc VAT and postage.

What makes you think that? I've not seen a unique head unit listed for Japan, just the standard unit and the 3 or 4 versions of the premium system dependant on model year / VIN range.

In earlier days, there was indeed different hardware for the different countries.
You could fit a physical frequency shifter unit in the Antennea feed as a solution but the Radio would then not display the correct frequency.

Modern Radios like those fitted in the D3 and D4 however are controlled by software, and in their case by the Setting in the CCF.

With full CCF editing capabilities we know of many cases our equipment has already been used to make this modification.

Many thanks for the very informative replies.

I do have SDD v134 but the CCF parameter to change the FM Frequency Step is not editable. Big Cry

Sorry guys, I can't justify the cost of an alternate diagnostic tool for what would probably be a one off mod.

Cheers

I just saw this, and so just for the record, I used IID BT to change the region setting from Japan to EU when I brought the car over to the UK. Really easy to do and here I can make Use of the RDS function. There was a setting for all the regions in the world, so with just the CCF change, you should be able to change it to NZ.

For information - I saw an advert in The Caravan Club magazine for a gizmo that adds DAB to a vehicle radio by retransmitting it (at low power) on an FM frequency. Must be cheaper one available somewhere else.
