Badges: Brunel chrome vs Brunel metallic.....?
The badges on my D3, both front and back, have been deteriorating for quite some time. The silvery paint has started flake and they look a bit run down. I thought I would do something about them - like replace with new.
Originally the badges were named Brunel chrome, which I assume is what I have. So slightly silvery but with a brownish tint.
From VIN 6A376900 (so MY06) forward they changed to Brunel metallic and every badge (except two) get new part numbers.. the suffix LPO changes to LQV. Fine.
Which badges didn’t get a new part number? An astute reader might notice that there isn’t a brunel metallic Discovery or “3” badge.... What confuses me even more is that there is an LR3 badge in Brunel metallic.
I guess I could get the rear discovery part as Brunel metallic from the D4 (LR018249) and not apply number 4 leaving me with vehicle with a funnily colored number 3 in the back... or no number and pretend it is a post-2014 facelift vehicle by adding the two parts below instead of LAND and ROVER..
Front, disco: LR051555
Front, very: LR051556
Does anyone know why this is so? Do all 2006..2009 D3s have “DISCOVERY 3” in another color than the other signage in the rear? In [unreliable] pictures on the internet, chrome and metallic are not the same color... but are they wrong and they’re the same thing but with a different name?

I must admit I keep thinking about replacing all my badges. The fact they are 3d and raised drives me mad when trying to clean the car. Toying with replacing them all with flat Gloss black stickers. So much easier to clean around.2006 TdV6 HSE.

There’s of course also the option to not have any model badges ... perhaps I need to photoshop slightly to see how it would look. Our other vehicle is without badges and has always been so.

Must admit I’ve taken all the badges off the back door and still toying with the idea of also removing the bonnet letters

At £9.65 including postage I though it was worth the risk purchasing them (plus there is 14 day returns policy - buyer pays return postage) rather than pay £80 plus for genuine Land Rover letters.
Size, shape and colour wise they appear very similar to the tatty Brunel letters that I took off. Time will tell as to how durable the finish is on the new letters. However it has made a big difference to the how the vehicle looks from the front.
The question is how do I now tidy up the letters on the back of the vehicle without spending a fortune (assuming I can get the full set of letters).
One option for the rear is to take the letters off and paint them with Humbrol 53 Gunmetal Metallic Paint (which I have been advised is similar in colour to Brunel).

This has been puzzling me too. I’ve found all the lettering on EBay, apart from a 3.
