We are considering getting a Disco 3 as a second car and making the 300TDi into my offroader, but after reading all the faults you all seem to be getting I am not so sure.
We test drove one and was really impressed but I dont like to thing of spending in excess of £30k to keep having to take it back to the dealers.
Are they as bad as some of you seem to make them or is it only to be expected on a new vehicle?

Hi scorpio, good to see you over here!
I think the general concensus is that people are generally very pleased and impressed with the Disco 3, there are problems but I don't think (although I don't speak from experience at all) that they are not as bad as they sound reading about them.
I'm sure someone more helpful will be along shortly

Hi Martin
Thanks for the welcome, i know that they are a Land Rover and we have all grown to love them despite there little problems but this is a lot of money and I am unsure wether to get a Disco3 (my heart tells me to) or get a late TD5 and plumb for reliability

Go for the 3. They are not as bad as we make out. I think we are a picky lot, but I also think we have every right to be with a 30- 40k car.
Mine is a very early one, and It is at the dealer now getting sorted out. Hopefuly this will be the end of the trouble.
All the troubles are software related, which will get sorted I am sure.
Whats the waiting list on a D3 now?

maybe thats what he meant when he said depending on spec and colour if we chose a spec and colour they have then he said it could be a week. But as I am awkward it will be one they dont have unless they want to start discounting on what they have in stock then i may play ball

Go for it Scorpio, it makes the TD5 very old fashioned and I'm sure plenty say the TD5 is unreliable compared to the 300. Are you from the LRO site?? I presume that was the site Gareth was refering to for saying they aren't shifting. I think a lot went out on the first to get the 05 plate. I was tempted to wait, but I'm glad I didn't.
At the end of the day Scorpio £30K is a lot of money, but so is £20-£25K for a TD5. Yes a few early ones have had teething trouble, but as yet none has been mechanical, bar the corroded cables. All the issues are SW and on the whole easily rectified. My mate had 2 Lexus's both were returned as they weren't up to standard, so I think we have perhaps created a slightly wrong impression of the car - nobody here has asked for their money back yet.

Yes it was the LRO forum I refer to. I find it a bit D3 "unfriendly" on there!!!

A lot of the older forums and LR newsgroups are a bit unfriendly towards the Disco3 but they had exactly the same attitude with the Freelander when they first came out, now they treat them just the same as any LR. So just give it a while and the D3 will be accepted into the 'family'
On the subject on waiting times, I ordered mine on the 1st March and have been advised delivery is going to be late May/early June. It's a factory order due to the options I want on it, but I'd rather wait a few weeks extra to get the car I want than compromise and get one earlier

True, but there do seem to be quite a few out there which are still Freelander-free zones, and are quite 'hostile'
Well at least there's a Disco 3 specific site to come back to

Just order it !!!
We ALL love our D3's and apart form the odd SW problem and suspension errors reported (and only on a few) there have been no mechanical problems that I am aware of.
I don't think any of us would ever think we made a mistake taking this beauty on.
Nearly all of the words written in the LR mags have been praise too. There were the odd electrical issues reported but these were on cars that were very early builds for press hacks to hammer to death.

I'll probably be ordering mine tomorrow... It will be a white HSE TDV6 (French specs...) with a few extras like Alpine roof, sat-nav & rear diff block... Delivery is expected for end of june which will be the time I'll be back in France with my family...
We are still checking a few details but the order is nearly final, now... I don't expect that I am doing a mistake !
