Finding shorts - Open circuits
Hi
Thought this would come in handy
Time will tell if it’s any good , does DC voltage only , up to 42 volts

Must admit finding little gadgets etc like that should in theory make life easier
Am in the process of doing a little project , where I can have the digital live data readings of both batteries
Just got to work out how not to have the aux battery voltage display constantly on when I alarm the vehicle
Also got all the bits now to remove the drivers seat memory module and loom , so I’m theory the 8 x way loom / seat switch etc should work , famous last words

What's the draw by the display from the Aux? Small yes? Very small??yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi
Indeed it’s just a small digital round volt gauge , wouldn’t think it would draw more than a few milliamperes , as the t max dual battery display goes off I’m wondering if I link it through that if the display will also go off
Suppose if it comes to it could fit a small switch to isolate the gauge
Would only take a few seconds to see what the gauge was pulling, would prefer it to go off when I lock the landy , got the display in greene to match the rest
All part of the little project I’m doing

Will be interesting to hear how well it works when presented with a wiring loom, the ECT 2000 doesn’t fare well with wires that are bundled together.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

Well you have a few options, 1. Leave it live as the draw is minuscule. 2. Fit a relay. 3. Run it off the T max if it doesn't confuse the source you're trying to measure. 4. Fit a switch, or connect to another auto switched source. Might need to start a thread elsewhere lest we come unstuck with the Stasi !!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Hi allan
Indeed, Just tried it on a seat loom and found it ok, but alas won’t be perfect , think it will come into its own so to speak when finding breaks in looms or the other end of the 12vdc supply etc
It’s a sealey FF400
Like the oscilloscope

Bought the Power Probe version of the broken wire finder years ago, used it once or twice not impressed, has sat it the tool box ever since
The actual Power probe itself is the dog danglies
Nearly every broken wire I have found has been located with the MK1 eyeball, ie a bit of verdigras, split insulation etc.

Hi mate
Seen that power probe on U tube , does get good reviews , is that the same one where using a switch can add power to a bulb etc

I reckon the very best thing about the power probe is the ability to provide a decent earth, any fool can find power, but a good earth is much harder.
The cheapie sealey etc copies of the power probe are just as good, all the extra bits the newer power probes can do are great but what you want is power and earth on demand for testing relays/bulbs/pumps etc etc.
I have an original power probe I bought well over 20 years ago and its still my go to tool for simple elec faults, the newer one is nice but apart from beeping doesnt do much more.
