Looking for 12V switched in roof
Is there a 12v switched available (only on when ignition is on) somewhere behind the front interior light dome ?
I'm installing a 12v camera in front of the rearview mirror and would like to take off 12 volt not too far away...

If you lift the cover on the driver's side A pillar there is a good selection of feeds that you can use - its an easy route up to the interior light cluster which is where I added a switch so that I can go from automatic when in reverse to always on so that I can check the trailer load when towing

Short answer is no - either switches on then off or constant power with switching after the electrical item (I think sensors are like this).
I had to run a power lead from the fuse box behind the glove box up the pillar then across to the center light where I have a USB connection to run my dash cam.

Yes, in the front light cluster there is a wire that is live when the vehicle is awake. I've used it for my dash cam (it's also quite interesting to note how often the vehicle wakes up for 2 minutes through the night.)
Can't remember which it is off the top of my head though! Basically it's the power feed for the map lights as these only work when the car is "awake".

I used a wire up behind the rear view mirror cover, only downside is the camera dies as you put it into reverse and sometimes has to be manually powered up by pressing the on button, the rest of the times it comes on and off with the ignition.
I think its the feed for the auto dimming rear view mirror, but it was a few years ago when I fitted it.
If I was doing it again I would go down to the fuse box as one day the camera wont fire up after reversing and I will forget to restart it and thats the day Im going to have an accident!
You can get nice and neat piggy back fuse holders so dead easy to fit into a fuse slot.

I thought they worked at any time (well mine do) and have a constant 12v feed not a switched 12v feed.
I looked right into this when I did mine and could not find and wires up there that were a simple switched 12v so that power was only supplied when ignition was on. That is why I ended up going to a piggy back fuse from the main fuse box - I think the fuse for the centre console 12v socket but I cannot remember.

The reading lights get shut off when the car is locked/alarmed. So they maybe of use.
Rain sensor or rear view mirror sound good options for ignition supply.
Rear view mirror green wire with red stripe seams the best choice. (ignition II)
Rain sensor green wire can also be used. (ignition I)
come via 5A fuses (69,18) so suitable for direct connection to a camera

Are you sure? When I tested those I found they had permanent 12v with the switching done on the negative side - but it is a long time since I played with all this.

It's extra work going across the sun visors, down the A pillar.
They get in the way when trying to change other fuses

There is a green/white wire on a 4 pin connector that plugs into the dome light that powers up when the car unlocks and turns off when it locks or powers down after a given time after the ignition is turned off.
