Automatic Transmission problem help needed
To my learned disco owners and techno wizards
Please can anyone shed some light and advice on a recent issue that has developed on my 2005 Disco 3 HSE?
Back earlier this year I invested in a deep flush , mega clean on the gearbox and what a real difference it made.
However a week or so ago a transmission fault / issue d3veloped that leaves me at a loss.
It has become quite difficult to physically move the gear shift through P to D with getting into D getting harder.
Eventually after a bit of wiggling and a bit of patient D selects but not always..... once in D it works ok but then if you have been doing say 50 odd mph and you put your foot on the brake the D letter disappears from the dash and then reappears as you apply pressure to the throttle.
Sometimes if you are coming up to a turn I brake turn the corner go to accelerate and engine revs and then after a moment it seems to drop into gear again.
It does all of this whether the engine is hot cold warm, first starting or starting after engine has warm3d up.
The issue seems to be getting worse with gear shift getting stiffer to move.
Has anyone else experienced this, have any idea what the problem is and how it can be rectified.
Any suggestions will be welcomed
Thank you
Clive

Can I ask how many miles on your Autobox? When Flushed, and now since the flush?
The stiffness sounds like the mechanical joint posted above.2011 MY D4 HSE

Hi Greedy,
Just wondered why you had the flush done and how much it roughly cost. I was thinking of getting mine done next year when the disco is on about 110k miles.

Flush
I had mine done at just over 100,000 miles. Reason was because of the findings I read up on here and my own mechanical sympathy to machines. I can not say that before the flush I really noticed the gear changes, I was new to a D4 BUT after the flush they were almost invisible and I was looking for them. The oil that came out was properly black. Black oil cannot be good!
Do a search and you will find lots of info and other peoples views.Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

My dear spacedawg
I had mine done because I found that at around 1800 - 2000rpm the Rev counter would flutter as if the engine was hunting and trying to select the right gear.
Advice I received was a mega flush would sort it....therefore had it done and by Jove no more hunting etc so issue solved.
As for cost can’t really say as it was done at same time as hand brake was replaced but I have a figure of 150 (but I’m sure someone here can give you a much closer price.
Very worthwhile doing though
Hope that helps
Regards
