4.4 V8 Over Advanced P0011 P0021,P0128 |
|
Hello All,
I've been getting the management light on, but never in the same conditions.
Its come on once when driving it hard, bimbling down the road with hardly any throttle a few times, stopping to get fuel and its on when I get back in and starting her a few times..
I've read all the codes and have to say there's a few, but I think the main one's I need to sort first are the engine one's..
P0011 Intake camshaft position timing - over advanced bank 1
P0021 Intake camshaft position timing - over advanced bank 2
P0128 Coolant Thermostat (coolant temperature below thermostat regulating temp.
Since both banks are complaining of the same thing, I'm guessing it can't be chains, as I would of thought it odd both stretching or out at the same time?
I have changed the crank sensor, but that didn't work, I have a sensor for the coolant, so will do that at the weekend.. So will see what that does, as I have read, the temp of the v8 is critical with the emissions etc..
Has anyone else see or heard of this issue, I have searched the usual and haven't seen a lot about it at all..
I will tackle the other codes afterwards, mainly loss of communications with different modules and the steering column module complains of low frequency coil?? what ever that is...
Looking forward to some help!!!!
Best wishes,
J

PO128 usually means one thing onLR3, Thermostat stuck open. with deteriorated or flipped gasket.It is better then stuck closed, but what is means, that it will take a lot longer to bring engine to operating temp. If I were you I would replace the thermostat.

Thank you all for your input, one has been ordered If the temperature is wrong, would that make the ECU over advance the timing or is that going to be something else??
Will have to wait and see I guess..

Help!! P0011,P0021 can't seem to find the issue |
|
So I'm still having issues with the Intake camshaft position timing - over - advanced on both banks
Does any one have any idea what I can look for next?
* Crank sensor replaced
* All Plugs replaced
* All coil packs replaced
* Thermostat housing replaced
* Thermostat replaced
* Water Temp sensor replaced
* Throttle body cleaned
* MAF cleaned
* Checked for Air leaks
Any thoughts, Ideas or hopefully if you have seen the same issue, please let me know!!
Best wishes,

Have you had the chain and tensioners changed ? I would look at this.
or the Variable cam timing units, assuming you have that.

I haven't, what mileage do they need changing? I would of thought it odd for both banks complaining about the same thing, since its two main chains, could understand it more if it was just one big chain??
What sort of job is it to do?

240k km I think.
Edit: that was the auxiliary belts.
Timing chain recommended is around 290k km but it isn’t written on the maintenance sheet.

humm, the jag 4.0 engine had one chain on the front, (and a small chain in each head).
Actually I'm not sure now
not sure about the 4.4
the front engine cover has to come off
maybe worth an inspection to see if its still timed.

Ah,
That's a pain 240km
I've just gone over 140,000 miles so about 225km, odd that it doesn't rattle, no chain noise. it runs and goes like the clappers..

I talked to the big boss of an Indy here last spring (the guys I trust the most and would let without hesitation do whatever to my vehicle necessary to fix...) that since it’s a chain the cogs and the chain itself seem to wear uniquely for each vehicle. Not everyone changes them at the recommended interval and there are no adverse effects like chain snapping. Lubrication and the oil change interval probably has a lot to do with it. Didn’t sound like it was an exact science. Still the cogs do wear out eventually.
Myself, I wasn’t planning on doing anything until closer to 290k km (roughly the same mileage as you) and then depending on what year it is, what the cost is and how much longer I think the vehicle will last

Humm as you say may not be that if there are 2 chains.
