xenon headlight upgrade by mistake

on my 2012 d4 my passenger headlight broke so i bought xenon on ebay with drp and i think the adaptive cornering , now i dont care about afaptive cornering but all that works is drl strip and indicator
ive read about having to upgrade some files but can i just change one headlight or do i have to od both or if its just a current problem cant i fool it by using a relay , just want simplest way ( and cheapest to sort )

hmmm … can't think of any settings that won't leave the car confused by this.

the power to the headlamps goes through FET transistors and the car knows the current to expect to be used. So even if you could workout how to put a relay in the circuit, as I understand it the car will throw a wobbler if it doesn't deliver the same current to the two sides.

Guessing the xenon unit was a good price ? why not see if you can get the other side ?

The headlamp should still work even if you’ve bought the adaptive spec unit by mistake. I suspect that either the bulb has gone or you have a duff ballast pack on the base the headlamp. You could simply switch bulb and ballast from your working headlamp to identify which has failed. Very Happy

they often start to light-up then the car cuts the power as current is to high if it's not set for xenons … is it possible yours is doing that ?

D4 Xenons will not work in a non Xenon set up car, occasionally you get the to light up once, then that’s it.

Only way is to match the headlamps, 2 Xenon and ccf edit the settings or replace with a halogen, they’re way cheaper Thumbs Up

new for £140 ??? that's suspiciously cheap methinks.

if you could get it tested and it works, then getting the other side is a good option. the light is far better than halogen. (until 2014 MY IIRC … then LR managed to make it worse !! )

I think you have got a dud lamp, maybe only the bulb, try unplugging the halogen, the xenon should work in a fashion on halogen setting. Xenon setting will blow halogen bulbs.
Even if you get it working you will have an mot fail.

When xenons are switched on a high starting current is sent to ignite the gas(xenon) if the lamp does not receive this strike of current it will either not light, flicker on/ off or flicker and stay on. If you have halogen bulb in the strike of high current will blow the bulb sometime soon.
