South Wales Greenlaning Scary Sideslopes |
|
The first lane we did with Bob @ Compass Adventures on a weekend trip last year.
He did warn us beforehand that there were some pretty hefty sideslopes and offered the opportunity to bypass it, but we thought "why not, let's go for it". Halfway in we were wondering about the wisdom of that decision!
A great weekend very well led by Bob, we did some awesome lanes and Strata Florida certainly lives up to the reputation.
The rest of the GoPro footage from the weekend corrupted when I transferred it to the PC. Just means we'll have to do the trip again!
Thanks Bob

Looks like a great lane to tackle.
Its a shame you lost the other footage, but I guess a bonus having to go back for another try
This is one to add to my list.

Crikey
Fair do's to you for tackling that angle. Daft question but I assume the oil sump/pickup is designed to handle angles like that for so long without suffering oil starvation? D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

yep, it was fun & squeaky bum at the same time!
as far as I know re the sump, it's fine for short periods. I did turn the engine off when we were sat there while the Defender got unstuck just to be on the safe side, I read somewhere (in the manual?) that D4s are fine for (I can't remember how long) at extreme slopes. The manual doesn't mention the drivers heart rate and laundry bill for some reason...............
to be fair, I was the only one worried about my paintwork, the others on the trip were Defenders, an old Jeep and Bob's 78 Series Landcruiser, and the rest of the lanes were fine. I carry a cordless hedge trimmer when laning for the worst parts, but I couldn't open the door to get out for the holly bush! nothing the guys at the car wash can't rub out though
Looking forward to redoing the trip Goodyear Duratracs for off road

Had a look on Trailwise and think I've found it, smack bang in the middle of 4 or 5 other lanes I've done in the area, surprised I missed it
