Agreed - always loved those little triangular shaped cartons of milk you got at primary school, good during the winter but even better if you got an extra one during the summer that had been left on the window sill all day to mature Mr. Green

I tried to phone but the next door neighbour was using it.
In them there days up until the very end of the 70's we had a shared (party) line, pick up the phone to make a call and you could hear next door speaking. If you wanted to make a call you had to wait till they were finished theirs. Press the little button on top of the phone to get a dialling tone

Happy days

...and even after BT was privatised, you could only use phones that were "BABT approved" and, even then, as long as you didn't exceed a total 'REN' of 1.5 for the whole house/line, and only if you had BT visit to fit a socket in place of hard-wiring the phone.

You lot were wealthy! We didn't have a phone until the 80s!

Not much use in RAF Germany, admittedly... Rolling with laughter
