Wobbly crankshaft pully š¤
Hi I was changing the drive belt and after I was done started the engine then checked but Iāve noticed the crankshaft pully has a slight wobble as if itās not on true, so I took it all apart and checked itās seated correctly cleaned it up and tried again but itās still the same. Has anyone else had this issue? The jockey wheel is riding wild too but Iāve checked itās okMetal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)

I can see a rubber in the centre, is that a dampener? Could fail and cause it to be unbalanced?Metal auto sump & fluid change (3 hrs)

Question for the Tech Heads - why have rubber in the pully - Why not plain steel?
Other than its a part that will fail and thereby generate a future cash stream for LR and their agents? Land Rovers never get bogged! - merely delayed
Land Rovers never break down! - merely fail to proceed.
Land Rovers never leak oil - itās a built in anti-rust feature

Its common nowadays to use a duo-bloc type pulley on just about every engine it seems. The rubber dampener is used to smooth out vibrations from the crank as well as the aux belt drive. The downside is that they can and do fail.
Its a small job to replace and inexpensive.yĀµ (idĀµ - eAĀµ) Ļ=mĻ

Thanks ...
Heard a funny saying back in my Series 2 days that āThe longevity of a Land Rover was guaranteed by the discomfort of its passengersā...
Seems to be a trade off between comfort and reliability - might be easy to replace but not if your just left off Woop Woop 700km from anywhere in the outback
Could it be replaced with a solid pully if you wanted to?

I don't know if a mono-bloc pulley was ever used on these or if its even available. Even if you did get something to fit correctly, would it have an impact on the crank?yĀµ (idĀµ - eAĀµ) Ļ=mĻ

You could, however the NVH and lack of dampening can and has been proven to cause crankshaft failures. Which on these I donāt think we need to give them any encouragement š
