New owner phone & BT question

Got my HSE on a 56 plate a week or so ago and have a question about the phone that I have connected by Bluetooth. I can make calls etc but when the person answers they cant hear me at all. I have turned up the volume etc but made no difference. I am suspecting microphone failure because when i press the voice command button and speak after the beep it tells me no voice detected. Am I missing a trick or do I need a new microphone?

Common issue with wires failing behind the dash

Best to check continuity from head unit up to the mic

I am guessing the wire runs from behind the head unit, up the drivers A pillar, under the roof lining to the centre console on the roof?
