Failure of tie rod and wheel bearing? |
|
Hi,
Question - can wheel bearing failure be linked to tie rod failure? Or vice versa? perhaps due to changing wheel geometry?
The tracking on my car was off (before I fitted the winter tyres anyway) and so I took it to a garage for this and an opinion on a boost squeal. They reckoned that one of the meyle tie rods which I fitted (and greased) last year has failed at the inner knuckle. I saw them wiggle the wheel and I'm inclined to agree. On the boost squeal they think it's a downpipe gasket (tentative "phew"!)
Separately, and having done 1200km in the last week I now have a rubbing sound most pronounced when turning. I feel like this could be front wheel bearings. I would like to fix what I can before taking it to garage for alignment. Could I have a wheel bearing issue and is this likely linked to the tie rod failure?
Thanks,
Andy

More than likely a coincidence - tie rod equals tire wear and steering, wheel bearing equals noise, CV joint equals clicking on turns.
