EPB auto - release not working on Automatic
Hello there, at the risk of asking a question that has loads of hits in the search on here, here goes 😏
I have a problem with my EPB that’s caused the car to fail the MOT (along with a couple of other issues), I can get it to engage and disengage manually with the switch but I have the Amber (!) warning lamp and the message auto release not functioning or similar. I have given all components inside the drums a really thorough clean and fitted new shoes/pins/springs etc following Bodsy’s bible.
It’s an automatic transmission.
Thanks

It may, and probably is something small. You need to have the codes read otherwise its a guessing game!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I had same problem on mine..Started with a amber light all was working oke...Then one day it stoped working all together...Red light on....error about handbrake.
It's a lot of money but i finally got it replaced...
When i was in the garage, they told me that i had some parts missing at the handbreak....where the cable enters the drum, there are some washers that keep the cables from moving out of the drum...did you check those ?

Thanks guys, sadly still no luck. Everything inside the drums is new and clean and seems to be in good order, so I’m guessing the auto release is either an electrical faul, or to do with the module under the car. Sadly borrowed two code readers and neither are “man” enough for the job.

Have a look at the members map for Scotland, there may be someone near you or an indy who can help!
I don't think you have a big issue as if you did the EPB wouldn't work at all. That said, don't leave it too long to sort it or you might well end up with a bigger issue. Often its just the EPB switch or the brake light switch, as they are both prone to failure. In the meantime you could order both (cheap) as many members on here do, and even if not the problem this time, you will at least have them in the car for when they do fail!!yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
