This years insurance malarkey..... |
|
Contents cover quote from existing insurer went up from last years £358.57 to £438.51, an increase of 22%
Rang them up and got the usual flannel that annual risk increases, blah, blah, blah.
Tried to engage me with re-filling out the quote form from scratch and I just said nothing has changed, cover exactly the same (and that, in theory is what the renewal quotes for anyway....) and they uhm and aah and initially quote me a 'loyalty discount reduction' to £398.64.
Said that didn't explain the increase, still over 11%, and unless they got it to around "same as last year" I would be looking elsewhere.
All of a sudden they can manage to reduce it to £306.14.........
They frustrate the hell out of me every year; car, 'bike, home, etc.

Frustrated the out of me also, all 4 cars and house are with the same company on a multi quote, but every year it goes up by 20% or so, but eventually after threatening to leave I get it back around last year's quote!
I always spend a bit of time on the comparison sites, before going back to my insurer Iggy/Ieuan

Following Grenfell Tower, professional indemnity prices have gone up by more than 300%. And there's a limited number of providers. So that'll be "over a barrel" applying then. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

a tenuous link, at the very hardest of pushes, to my contents insurance (based on postcode/area risk too supposedly) but given a phone call and a "I don't think so" got it reduced from a 22% increase to a 15% reduction just further proves what a load of it all is.......

Tell me about. Renewed on Friday. Cost me £3200. "Broadest brush" exclusion wording ever for external cladding materials. Refused to clarify any wording or meaning in regards to the exclusion.
So I renewed and because legal advice is provided as part of the policy I asked for further clarification. The response was amusing.
Talk of the devil... policy documents have just come through by email.

I've also found that NCD isn't as generous as it used to be in some cases. Back in the day, a good few years of NCD was a 70% discount off the policy price. I've seen the same good few years now only giving 30% even though it's considered to be "full NCD". Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I’ve got 15 years no claims yet still my policy is over £300 for the d3. Every year it increases by £100 or more, so every year I waste my time doing comparisons. At one point out of principle I wouldn’t renew with a company even if they offered to reduce it or match after ringing them. Trouble is, I ran out of companies with a sensible price pretty quick, so now tend to stick with the big names and play them off each other.
Shock horror, last year, my renewal actually went down. I’m sure it was a typo, but i paid it quick

I use APlan and Adrian Flux. I don't seem to have these issues. This year I had no increases on two policies and a reduction on one, the other went up very slightly because I had a small bump in France
I use these two insurers because I talk to humans that understand things rather than computers that don't. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

I used Adrian Flux previously on my TDV8. Weren't the cheapest but they covered off road use etc. When I had the TDV8 and it's replacement on the drive I asked if they could do me a bridging deal for a few weeks. Nope. One had to be full price even though the TDV8 wouldn't be going anywhere other than a possible test drive. They wanted over £800 for the one that didn't have NCD. After the TDV8 went, I asked them for a quote on the SDV6 with all of the NCD applied. Still over £800 strangely! Went elsewhere.

I renewed mine yesterday. It had only gone up £4 from last years premium to around £350 (through Tesco), but I thought I’d just give them a bell anyway for the hell of it. 2 minutes later it was below £300.
It’s always worth a call even if it hasn’t gone up "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
