Thinking of pulling the trigger on a D5 |
|
Bought my D4 HSE new in 2016, has been very reliable and no issues. Now on 54K miles however, factory warranty is up in April and I am feeling a bit stressed about the engine issues I keep reading about and how the extended warranty doesn't cover it so....
Have seen 68 plate D5 HSE, 45 miles on so new pre-reg, offered at around £63K. Bit horrified to find out my D4 is now only worth £25K on trade in. But all in all thinking of pulling the trigger. Thoughts? *now enjoying* D5 Namib Orange HSE 68

The warranty can be extended and even if you fell foul of the crank issue, the near £40k difference between the value of your current D4 and the proposed D5 would more than cover a new engine.
If you're happy with the D4, why change it? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Might be worth asking on the Disc05 site as there are many there who have been through the same thought process.

Yeah I registered on there. Just wondering what is the likelihood of an engine issue. I can't afford to be without the car for weeks whilst it's fixed as it is a hardworking work vehicle! *now enjoying* D5 Namib Orange HSE 68

I have faced this decision, and decided to keep my late D4 and take out an extended warranty.
I have tried the D5 & Evoque but neither inspired me.
I'm hoping that the new Defender might be the answer, with the right engine; failing which I guess I will be without a Land Rover for the first time in over 40 years.

Define hard working work vehicle
D5 is a great mile muncher but most certainly not a commercial vehicle in the same way as the D4 is / was

I mean I do around 19K miles a year, and when I get to where I'm going I need good off road capability. It also has to carry a lot of kit.
Tempted by D5 as electrically folding seats as well if I'm honest. Its a very manual process in the D4 and I've broken more than one nail (sorry female LOL). *now enjoying* D5 Namib Orange HSE 68

I have. Really liked the interior. Really like the electric seats. Felt the handling and brakes were good.
Just wondering if I can justify the upgrade LOL. Have found a really nice colour option in the orange too...(girl remember). *now enjoying* D5 Namib Orange HSE 68

IMHO D4 prices & Freelander 2 prices are holding up well.
I haven't watched D5s & Evoques but anticipate that they are not - certainly discounts are available on new ones, but certainly not enough to tempt me!

The one I like was up for £67K (options in reality mean it's a £74K car). But even though mine is only worth £25K apparently, they'll give me another £4K off in reality so £63K. That's £11K off new price, I think that's good! It is the same engine though, a 3.0 one I'm looking at.
I am surprised by how much they've gone up since the D4, mine was £55K new with quite a few options and black pack. Very surprised by how heavily they've depreciated as well. *now enjoying* D5 Namib Orange HSE 68
