Disco 3 lower steering colum removal
HI,
In the process of removing my lower steering column. Helpfully the nut that joints it to the top column quickly went 'easy to turn' as the small round internally threaded 'nut' on the other side un welded it's self from the lower column. 1 hour with a hack saw later I am left with the nut as a 'pin' through the lower and upper columns. Thought it would then drift out with a pin punch - no such luck. Next stop is a little home made screw press to force it out.
However its crossed my mind it might be threaded all the way through and hence need unscrewing. Is this the case? Part no QYG500110 on attached drawing.
No its a shanked bolt, so should come out, if you have cut the nut away then it should drop out as it only threads in to the nut.
I have done loads of these and never had that nut spin you will need to get a new longer bolt and nut to replace it, make sure they are high tensile.
If you are fitting a new column then it will have the nut on it.
