I can remember that show when it was first broadcast, and still the tears of laughter watching it again. Many thanks for resurrecting a very funny performance.

He was one of the best, and a great singer, one of my favorite clips of Freddie was when he was on the Parky chat show with Muhammad Ali.

We’re both sat in the garden watching this. I’m sure we’ve just woken some neighbours up with us laughing. My wife’s in tears 😭 . What a great start to the day.

Wales

Never really a fan but I met Starr in 1986 while he was staying at a hotel in south east Wales.

The regular night porter did 10 nights on, 4 nights off and I was more than happy to cover them to boost my income with the enhanced rate. At 3 in the morning, the place was silent, so I went into the grill restaurant kitchen to make myself some cheese on toast, all of a sudden there was a voice behind me "have you got any hamster sandwiches?" I turned around to see Freddies face beaming. Trouble was I hadn't ever heard of the newspaper headline about the hamster, so had no idea what he was on about so I just wryly smiled and said: "oh... good morning sir, do you need some assistance?"

He asked me for a cup of tea and we sat down in the restaurant while I ate my snack. He said he couldn't sleep ...I could tell that he was on uppers or something as he was very jittery and couldn't stop talking. He talked about how he was portrayed by the press, how he had loved and lost many women, marriage difficulties, how he felt so sad about his children, particularly one lad who he was very concerned about due to a split with his then wife. He talked me through how he flew his helicopter (which he had flown to the hotel in... reg 'G-STAR') sitting there physically doing his cross-check for take off Laughing

Nearly 4 hours later we were still there ...the sun came up and morning shift staff had started to arrive, he stayed with them laughing and joking signing autographs..while I went off to handover with the receptionist.

I found him to be outwardly very jolly and pleasant, easy to talk to, but at the same time when he was talking about his personal issues, you could tell he was quite a sad and lonely individual who wasn't really enjoying life.

RIP
