This falls under the category of a "pointless post".
When I was a lad, all taps worked like they were threaded (because they were), i.e., anti-clockwise = open, clockwise = close.
When I was a lad, all locks worked the same way: with the key in the lock, turn the top of the key away from the jamb.
Things seem to have been slowly changing to be the complete opposite of these. Who agreed to this? I certainly didn't. Shall we have a country-wide referendum?

BS CP 310 1965 stated that when hot and cold taps are provided together the hot water tap should be on the left.
BS 1010 Part2 1973 stated that for combined assemblies it is recommended that the hot tap should be on the left hand side when viewed from the front.
EN 200 1989/92 states that in the case of taps with separate control devices, the cold water shall be on the right and the hot water on the left.
I dug the above out, some years ago, when I was having some plumbing done at home, and the plumber was reluctant to change a hot tap to the right hand side of a basin.
I would be interested to have someone confirm that this is still the case. I believe that similar regulations exist in the USA.

Not that I am suggesting either way is right or wrong (should that be correct and incorrect - don't want to suggest that turning right (clockwise) is right and turning left (anti-clockwise) is wrong). Oh, hang on I am not suggesting that turning left is anti anything and certainly not suggesting there should be any clockwise prejudice.

My son's house is a new-build Bellway one. The bath HAS to have a temperature limiter installed. Ok so far ? but it's too cold to run a bath because of the water losing temperature whilst it's taking ages to fill.
And of course ... it's a fixed temperature. to change it, you need to bin the installed kit and fit something else.
so never mind saving blind people from scalding themselves, it just makes having a bath a miserable event for everyone.*
* i hasten to add that when i say everyone, i don't mean all at once. or so he tells me.

The bath water temperature limit is to prevent the scalding of babies. There were some cases of babies being placed in to extremely hot baths and severe injuries occurring, and this solution was intended to help reduce that risk.
The hot water is limited to 48degC which is pretty hot if you get in a full bath at that temperature. I guess they might have a flow rate issue too which means the bath takes too long to fill and means the water has cooled before being used.

Does no one have elbows anymore for testing the bath temperature Its not the height of the fall but the sudden stop at the bottom that hurts!!
this could be switched by a time clock and/or a thermostat.

Hot water needs to be stored at 55°C or more to prevent the growth of Legionella and similar.
I have this argument at home, when they all complain the hot tap is too hot.Richard
