Yesterday we left the south of France, towing our caravan 300 miles or so to Burgundy. It was quite breezy, but nothing really unusual. Once we got on the Autoroute, and to speeds c.90kph, every now and then there was what appeared to be a wind related buzzing/resonance seemingly coming from the rear of the car somewhere. The seats are all folded as we’ve got the bikes and chairs in there.
I stopped a couple of times to see if we could identify what was making the noise, to no avail. At the first stop I removed a couple of hard Laurel type leaves that were trapped in the small gap between the glass roof and the car roof in front, as the noise sounded just like that sort of thing. But alas, it wasn’t that.
I’ve had a good look around but just can’t see what might have been causing it. Has anyone experienced similar?

I suppose you could try an do a quick journey without the caravan would be a start. Eliminate that first? MY07 Freelander2 SE Santorini Black - Gone

Thanks. Windows were all closed. We haven’t got the opportunity to drive at speed without the caravan until tomorrow but I did consider that, although there’s nothing different with it to when we travelled down a few weeks ago, and it definitely sounds like it’s coming from within the car.

No I don’t think so. It’s definitely related to the wind and speed. It’s so weird.

do you have any bits attached to the cat which are loose enough to rattle at higher speed
like wheel arch liners
mud flaps
some door trim or similar stuff?
anything loose might be trasferring noise through the body

Definitely no cats inside the car! And as far as I’m aware there’s nothing different in the car. It’s a buzzing/loud humming sort of noise that is only there in the wind if there’s a gust. And only does it with wind, not speed and isn’t constant. It really is weird.

Not as far as I can tell. We’ll see what develops tomorrow and we get home on Sunday all being well. I could do with finding out what it is though as we’ve only got another couple of weeks on the original warranty (another year on LR’s extended warranty, but it probably doesn’t cover anything related to the car anyway, judging on others’ experience).
