Rear registration plate
Hi,
I'm brand new to this site because I'm looking for a 2005 (to avoid high road duty) Disco 3 HSE TDV6 to use as a caravan tow vehicle, but I'll also use it for more general use, including occasionally carrying materials for the house I'm renovating. I see the rear internal width will accept an 8' x 4' board, so I wondered if the rear registration plate folded down to legally allow the board to project out the open lower section of the tailgate, can anyone help?

No, the plates are screwed or sticky-pad fixed on.
A trailer board would do what you want BUT as the open back would draw fumes into the car, it's not sensible for anything other than short infrequent trips..

Yes thanks, I'm aware of that issue and I'd be driving with the windows wide open - short distances only, but it seems I'd need to rig up an extra reg. plate anyway.

I've been using a Hanibal expedition rack to carry large sheets of ply etc. I've never had a problem getting them on and off.

On early Range Rovers a hinged rear number plate was an option to allow them to be driven with the lower tailgate open.
My 2nd Range rover came with one, really simple idea!

Don't film chase cars keep the bottom tailgate closed for H&S that being one reason they are used? Air suspension meaning less vibration being the other?Series 1 V8

Thanks, have you any idea if an early Range Rover hinged plate might be adapted to fit on the Disco 3?

Can't see why not. It was simply a hinged plate that the number plate mounted to.
I think the number plate lights were on the hinged plate so folded down with it.
Might be easier to make one than to find one though!

Or, if the top tailgate part is down in its normal position then just gaffertape a plate in the window when needed.
