The AA smart breakdown.

Hi there, I have just received the car genie from the AA. Anybody else got one? Is it any good.

Is that the thing you pay a monthly subscription for a fault code reader ?

To me it didn’t stack up.

You seam to be renting a very cheap and generic fault code reader
Was how I saw it.

Can you use it yourself to read fault codes?
Or is it remote control only ?

I wasn’t really sure what to expect when it turned up. I don’t think I’ll keep it plugged in all the time, it tells me that the battery is fully charged (I new that already) and that I have no faults (not me obviously, I have loads!) I was wondering really if anybody has found it useful.
Cheers.

For some unknown reason I was asked to be part of the trial run.
The AA assured me it would be a game changer.
Sadly, It wasn't as good as they promised.

I looked at this and as above, it looked to me like a simple odb that the aa can access, but you have to pay extra for it. If it was something like the iid for £5 a month I may have considered it. I am a member with the aa and think their service is spot on, but this seems a bit gimmicky to me.

If a fault developed and it told me what it was, then that would be an advantage.
I went for it because it was cheaper as a new customer than an existing.

The only times i have called the AA or RAC i have told them whats wrong and just to send a recovery truck but they still send a Tech to check it out and waste another couple of hours of my life.

I also find the fact they will insist on sending a tech. first a nuisance , but I expect they have too many members of the public miss diagnosing. The only time the AA accepted my diagnosis was a call out for a Rover Group company Range Rover with a blown head gasket. Just sent the Relay truck to take it to the dealer which was only about 2 miles away.
