Yes, I know he's from the USA and they spell words differently. Whistle

We had this discussion in the office yesterday. The Oxford dictionary uses 'z' and, if I remember correctly, Inspector Morse collared a murder who had become a suspect after he claimed to be an alumni of Oxford Uni but used 's' instead of 'z'.

It's possible that the OED has its own view (mine gives both versions), most sources seem to show the z version as US, the s version as British. This site, which claims to be "powered by Oxford" does just this: https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/familiarize

Perhaps use "make oneself familiar with..." as it avoids the problem. Laughing
