Central locking failed on rear door

Today, I was packing to go on holiday and needed something from the car. I pulled the right rear door handle to open it, and it opened, but the alarm went off!

Then I realised that the car was locked. The door should not have opened as I did not have the smart key on me.

I have subsequently established that the right rear door does not lock or unlock with the central locking. I can secure the car by manually moving the locking latch on the interior handle (via the front door) then locking the car as normal.

If I have manually locked it, when I subsequently unlock the car, the rear door stays locked and I have to manually unlock it from the inside.

Looks like I need a new latch.

Really really common problem on all late Land Rovers.. the tiny motors within fail with age....
tomorrow’s job is to replace another door lock on daughters FL2...

Quite fiddly to do and take your time doing it... just needs patience!

The hardest bit until you work out how to do it is taking the glass window out...
Top tip...take the rubber strip off the outside at the bottom and slide a plastic ruler down the hole until it slides between the window glass and the bottom white clip...
So simple when you know how to do it but a total b Censored d trying to work out how to release the clip!

It’s a fiddly job and don’t try to force any clips as they easily break...take your time and it’s quite rewarding when you’ve done it! Smile

I had to replace 3 on mine, I always wonder how many D4’s are knocking about with unlocked rear doors?.
Ritual for me was lock the doors, keep key out of range, check all doors locked - you can’t beat the convenience of keyless entry.
Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
Ex D3 and D4

Hi

Also found using glass suckers very helpful instead of using tape , the single ones because the double ones arnt the same angle as the glass

Put a few links here including the glass clips if needed , clips just need a little sanding to make them fit properly

Glass suction cups

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Strong-Suction-...noapp=true

Window clips

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Window-Panes...noapp=true

Hope that helps and doesn’t come across telling u how to suck eggs

As farmer chalk mentions about sliding a ruler in between the plastic clip to release the glass
