Carbon Dioxide release
It seems that the Brazilian Government's acceptance / inability / lack of interest in dealing with forest fires has, so far this year, led to the release of over 220 million tonnes of CO2. Last year, the UK as a whole released about 360 million tonnes of CO2. If the fires continue for the rest of the year, Brazil's fire will have released about the same as the UK did last year.
UK Govt keeps telling us we need to do more to cut emissions. A bit of pressure elsewhere wouldn't go amiss, it seems.Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

"When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die! You don't know who's children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they were always going to have to do from the very beginning: SIT DOWN AND TALK!"

So long as we don't involve the US military to try to stop these forest fires!

And discriminate between fires that are started by nature (lightning strikes & volcanoes) and man made fires.
These fires are the result of Bolsonaro giving the wink to farmers / mine companies that it will opened up for exploitation. "Oh dear, how sad, never-mind. Now it's burned down, we might as well make the most of it...".
I will try and keep sad the news from my banana-plant.
