Beware - Basingstoke Railway Station Car Park
Not mine fortunately but our admin team at work have just circulated these photos of a D4 that was hit in the Basingstoke Station Car Park yesterday.
Anyone looking to upgrade their front end and offered parts by someone in Hants/Berks/Surrey area who hasn't got a D4 on the drive they have come off should be asking where they have actually come from...

ards!! This sadly doesn’t surprise me. I was talking to a Southern Water bod one day, who was looking at a job behind Basingstoke railway car park, and saw two characters looking around a BMW. They called the Police who didn’t want to know because it was Railway property, so they had to go round to the Station, and after eventually finding a Transport policeman, went back to the car park to find that the BMW had been stolen. Beware!
Even if we modify ours to bolt in the lights.. it wont stop them smashing the window and trying to take them anyway...
i bet these people dont even own green oval or they wouldnt do this.

Early D3’s are cheap now so it wouldn’t surprise me if they are stolen ‘to order’
Probably not even worth claiming on your insurance by the time you factor in excess and inflated premium at renewal.Discovery 4 HSE

Sadly, Uncle Ray's upgrade to the spare-wheel-protector isn't as practical as the original.

cable ties on the grill clips the headlight sliders and rear light clusters wont make them impossible to remove but will certainly slow the w**kers down a bit maybe long enough to put them off or for someone to catch them and point out the error of there ways please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick, thankyou

Thanks for the tip eightfoot.
Is that the consensus opinion on the best way of securing? It appears this was done without opening the bonnet from what I can make out.
Found a way to secure the rear lights and now need to do the front ones and grill.
Any advice appreciated.
CheersGary

I had assumed that the passenger window was smashed to access the bonnet release and therefore open it to aid removal

Given the resources (i.e. will never happen) it would be easy to identify old D3s with facelift D4 lights on them and request proof of purchase. Those caught with buying ones that have been nicked (i.e. not from parts suppliers) should be charged with handling stolen goods. That would hopefully drop the demand and therefore hopefully the supply.D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Also, is it time to go back to security etching headlights and other bits like they did in the 80s/90s?D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten

Doesn’t look to be any sign of broken window. No glass on the deck.Gary
