I may have suggested this in one of your earlier posts but you could try Flack who is a forum member and site sponsor. He's just up the road in Preston!!

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/member-flack.html

You could send him a PM!

I don't know him personally, but I do know he is eminently regarded by all on this forum. Thumbs Up

If I am reading your quote correctly they seem to be assuming that the bottom end is ok and also the camshafts aren't damaged

If the cams are damaged, its another £700 onto that quote + labour (presumably)

It looks as though they expect the cam caps to be OK too

EDIT: And rockers...

Have they stripped the cam covers off to assess the damage yet?

They do a standard fixed fee for the rebuild i read on the quote..
If they are changing all the valves allready, regarding the quote, i can not see extra labour for the camshafts, only (extra) parts...

I agree, that you should make proper agreements about “more or less”. Involved work.
And maybe a final diagnosis before the “big work” starts..

So you have a choice to proceed or stop

Going to call it a day!

Hi
Just an update. We have decided to call it a day with my LR and sell her on as she is. A bit sad but she has been nothing but trouble and I am just not rich enough to own her!!!
Thanks for all of your advice, helping me reach this decision.
Very Happy

Probably a wise choice. Sometimes it is just not worth it.

Hi
I don't know enough about these to strip it and sell it! I would be out of my depth so am going to sell it as is and whoever buys it can either put in a new engine or strip and sell it!
Why am I not putting in a new engine? I have lost faith really. I would just do that and sell her on anyway now. She has the other problem with her transmission and, knowing my luck, that will be the next thing to go!
so, I am waiting for K Motors to see if they have anyone who wants to buy her, otherwise I will get her home and put her on that auction site and see what we can get for her!

I suggest you offer it up for sale here, there are those who might buy & fit a Jag. engine as has been suggested.

Good luck.
