2007 egr valve

Hi folks

I have a 2007 disco 3 se 2.7 tdv6
It lost power briefly a few times before finally losing it permanently and going into limp mode, airbag light and engine management light on

Code reader gives P0489 exhaust gas recirc control - circuit low

Cleared both the airbag light and the 489 code and have driven 20 or so miles since and besides low power for the first 20 seconds it hasn’t thrown the code again

Both egr valves done at 100k , jeep now has 148k on it, I also replaced battery a few weeks back

Question- is it possible that it’s just thrown a few codes or is it likely an egr valve has gone again? If so us it possible to tell which one?

Could anything else cause the fault?

Cheers for any help

Steve

Hi

if you have only cleared fault codes then you have not actually cured the problem, and the actual egr valve problem exists.

I recently had a fire caused by a faulty EGR so be careful to get the problem sorted. On a 2007 Euro4 engine the egr valves can be blanked off and the software patched to stop the system talking to them.

blank them off remove the butterfly and get the software patched, clear the codes and fingers crossed you will be good to go!

BTW do you have a “Jeep” as well Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Unfortunately not.....

I realise clearing the code only knocks the lights out, what I meant was is there any other electrical issue that could throw that code?

Also I was told by the specialist I couldn’t blank this engine as chassis number 7a?

Cheers

You can blank it but as darrind says you need the software patch which prevents the ECU calling up the EML!

The Egrs if faulty can return exhaust gasses back into the engine when under full load. This superheated exhaust gas will melt the plastics it is channeled back into along with engine oil if it melts through to it, quite a combination for a fire if you aren’t lucky!

Normally the EGRs just get stuck and the engine goes into limp mode, this is what happens if you blank a Euro4 engine without a software patch. If you have an GAP IID you can get the patch from BAS - GAP are a forum sponsor https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/2015/06/23/...nking-etc/

I was lucky that what I thought was a coolant leak (I was bunged full of cold and couldn’t smell the plastic) hadn’t caught properly and I could put out the small fire on the throttle body pipe.

Blanking the EGRs is a fairly easy task. If you have an IID to reset the error you could just order the Patch to stop the error being thrown up again...

Am I right in thinking after physically blanking them off then sometime folks don’t get a fault light?
If so, get them blanked and the potential software patch can wait....
I might be wrong so please research etc
