Incartec aftermarket head unit and Logic7
Hi folks,
I’m looking at an aftermarket head unit from Incartec (site advertisers) for an upcoming D3 purchase, and from what I understand I would need to bypass the Logic7 to make it work.
Does anyone know what this would mean? Would I lose the amp and therefore suffer poorer sound quality? Will the additional speakers in the rear still work?

There is a harness for the amp , i didnt have an amp in my SE with CD400 system and honestly dont need one as my new head unit has an amp chip built in.
All your speakers should still work as well as the steering wheel controls unless your loom gets butchered.

I believe the additional speakers won't work.
More significantly the Sat Nav and LCD display won't work, unless you leave half the old head unit in the car.
The steering wheel buttons probably won't be able to adjust the settings thru the dash either

I know it's a late reply but if you have anything other than the basic system don't you have to remove the unit from the cambus because of it being part of it.
Incartec have been very helpful to me with my Vauxhall/fiat combo van.
I mentioned to them about wanting to upgrade the discovery and got a face that expressed everything I needed to know.
The reply was yes it can be done but not straight forward.

It can be done but is not straight forward you will lose the satnav and wont be able to change the time on the clock.

Am I right in thinking you like reverse sensors as Well. Don't they work through the stereo?

Ok thanks. Somebody told me that factory fitted used a rear speaker through the amp.
Also you can't do software updates unless it's removed from the cambus with the 6 CD unit.
Not sure what numpty at land rover designed an over complicated system that isn't very good. I believe it's an Alpine unit. They know how to build a decent system and should have been left to Put the features in that would have made it good even for its time.

I do not agree... first off all, when they designed the D3 (2003/4) a few other premium brands used the same denso sat nav system quality.. it was a rather good system then.. the HK system if fitted is still a rather high-end sounding system..
Also a real feature was the 4x4 display, not on the budget models but surely on most of the discovery models..
And last of all, almost every car brand, Has integrated system, sat nav and audio systems in the dash who are not designed to change with aftermarket systems...
think what you want of that, but LR is not different than most of the other brands..
Swearing at LR is easy, but why? Give them credits is also easy, but less done and most of us here drive them still..Best regards

It's my 3rd discovery and had a series 3 and 91 defender so I'm infected by the bug.
The system sound is good it's the interface for the mp3 is unusable if you want to play a certain track.
I've not got the sat nav but have fitted a tablet into the hole and play it through the aux.

Well, I stream my music from my NAS at home in FLAC/lossless/ MP3 with my iPhone in my D3 my2005
And select every song I want that way.. just not with the steering buttons, but that is also not possible in my SAAB 95 aero, and my ford transit MY2009 with luxury pack.. also our past (then brand new) BMW from 2008 had only a iPod jack plug...
D3’s design is at least 16 years old... you can not blame the designer for this audio part IMHO..Best regards

It was good for its time but things have moved forward, swapping to a 7" android based unit opens up a lot more usability. Accessing a NAS is no good if you are hundreds of klms away from phone service which i guess isn't much of a problem in most of Western Europe, i have 96gig of storage plus what ever size USB flash i care to use.
Bluetooth streaming, wifi, front and rear camera's and an up to date GPS system are just some of benefits.

Seeing threads like this keeps reminding me I must sort out bluetooth for mine , got the plug in wiring loom so now have an aux connector
Also been toying with the idea as mines the base model of replacing the radio that has satnav/ CD player but see many units req an external satnav source
Prefer using cds over iPod, will see what’s around in the jan sales

Its easy if you gave the base system. Aftermarket satnavs usually come with a gps antena that fixes to the edge of the windscreen.

Hi
Funny enough read that ref base models , so don’t have to worry about amps etc
Many thks Ref the satnavs , so it having a GPS antenna does that mean it’s all built in or reqs connecting to an external WiFi , source like a phone, dongle etc , apologises for the daft question ,
Alas don’t know if it would be cheaper to buy a dedicated satnav like Tom Tom , as I thought not having the built in satnav could fit a Tom Tom in the upper section of the dashboard
See if an after market radio is fitted u loose the dashboard clock, does it mean it can’t be adjusted or is removed from the display plse
