Am I missing an O ring?

Hi guys,

I've just fitted a new air filter and I'm curious as to how the air intake tubing is supposed to seat and seal onto the bit that disappears beneath the engine?

You can see the bits I mean in the pictures below and I can understand that it sits flush on top of the tubing but should there be rubber O- rings to seal it as there aren't any on mine??

There does appear to be a place where O rings could seat on that tubing that disappears but on my vehicle no rubbers exist. The plastic tubing from the airbox sits slightly loose which seems odd.

Yes there should be a seal, just make sure it's not attached to the end of the cross pipe. It's important that the seal is in place or you'll get grit going through the turbo as well as unmetered air causing power loss and dtc's!

Thanks for confirming. It's definitely not in the cross pipe and has probably been missing for the whole time I've owned the car - over 2 years! Shocked

It's a corrugated rubber ring that sits over the lower section of the pipework, the upper section pushes down into it to form an air tight seal.

May be worth taking the sump guard(splash tray) off and seeing if it's dropped in there!

Looks like the part number for the tubed piece that runs underneath the engine is - PHD500082.

I've found examples of salvaged parts online and also an exploded diagram but can't see the rubber flange described. PROFSR G - Are you certain that it exists and any chance you have a picture or P/N please?

There was a post a few days ago where a guy had had poor performance for 2years and thought it was the norm until he found this ring had been fitted wrong and was partially blocking the air inlet. Thumbs Up

Haha, that post was me but it wasn't this ring missing... it was the airbox not seating correctly against the vent in the wing 👍

OK, I've found what it looks like but suspect it's not a separate part and only comes with the complete tubing Neutral

UPDATE

In case anyone was interested, I ordered P/N PHD500082 from a salvage yard ensuring that the rubber connector was present...cost me £25 delivered.

Fitted the rubber sleeve and it's made a really noticeable difference...fantastic! I used to hear a sort of roar on hard acceleration which I'd always attributed to the diffs and was generally a bit gentle with them but that roar has now gone so it must have been an induction noise probably from the 2 plastic ends (not sealed with the rubber bit) vibrating and making noise.

Low speed pickup below 2k revs has improved noticeably and the car finally drives and responds as I've always felt it should....happy with that! Very Happy

Nice to have a repair that's cheap for once! Now, to the garage next week for a new wheel bearing, both front lower arms and rear arms along with track rod ends....back to expensive bills as per usual!! Big Cry
