DIY Service on Tuesday - Advice.
Evening all,
My D3 will be having a full service on Tuesday, by myself.
I’ll be doing:
Engine oil/filter
Air/pollen/fuel filter
Front & Rear diffs
Hopefully...transfer box and gearbox.
I’ve got my trusty Halfords tool box, torque bar etc.
I am after any tips before tackling the big bus (first time working on a Disco)
I’ve watched a few YouTube vids for the fuel filter and that seems okay - if the coloured plate is still on the filter.
Gez.

Make sure the oil filter fits properly, there's a nipple on the bottom of it that engages in a hole, just rotate it slowly till it fits in, then fit the cover over it
and if you fill in your profile details as to age/flavour of D3, you may (not a given though) get more specific details.

If you haven’t got a workshop ramp, make something to give you good access underneath. The fuel filter can be a twa7

Safety..
Axle Stands are a MUST, and make yourself aware of where they need to be placed. Do not rely on the raised height mode thinking that you can just lay under the car.2011 MY D4 HSE

Only stick in 5 litres of engine oil, run then let it settle for some time, then top up if needed.

Cheers all...!
Does anyone advise to get new diff plugs? Like the sump plug, or are the diff plugs fine to reuse?

Take the fill plugs out first, just in case they are a problem. But if they do come loose without damage then they can be reused.Simon.

Remember the gearbox is a specific fill not repeat not up to the filler plug.Once you have defeated the idiots any job is half done. Pity there are so many idiots to defeat.

I’ll be picking up an oil gun tomorrow for the diff fills - can measure the amount properly then and get a good fill to the recommended amount.

Well... today went well for a first time working on a Disco.
I’ve definitely learned a lot today and also feel no where near as nervous tackling such a big bus.
Although it doesn’t seem I’ve got a lot done today, I’m happy.
I managed the:Engine oil/filter
Pollen filter
Front diff
Front diff I found an utter pig to get access to the filling plug, but that’s the negative from working on a car without a ramp I guess.
So I still have the gearbox/transfer box/rear diff to do next.
