Disapointed

Been with A Plan for a few years with the FL2 And then when I left the LR Fold a Audi S4

Looking at swapping to a Q5 and suddenly need a tracker on it, due to the price been over £40k

The S4 is sportier, more expensive and still didn’t need a tracker, I found it very strange, never mind the fact as soon as you drive it off the forecourt it would be less than £40k 😏

So the option was put on a tracker, pay small cost to swap or opt for a company that they said didn’t want a tracker, which was £250 more than other high street insurers

But even though they are forcing me to leave due to ott requirement of a tracker, and want to charge a cancellation fee, on top of no refund for cancelled motor legal policy’s and other add on’s (need to check that term is within the small print)

my guess is every Disco would need a tracker if the over £40k guide is to go on, so youve been warned

My wife’s last Q5 was stolen off the drive by masked men while she and the kids were in the house. Plates were changed on the car and the smashed the house door to get the keys.....

Car never traced or recovered

Take from that what you will. I believe it was stolen to order. They seem to be more desirable than the Audi saloons as they are a bit of a soft roader.

Doom doom doom. Sorry

It’s quite possible that’s the reason, but you would expect the S versions to be just as desirable

I have had few interesting visitors in the early hours

I am having a ghost fitted again, if they can’t drive it away, then I’ll not need a tracker as it will be still on the drive way, or if lifted and towed then I will be one of the unlucky ones

The trouble is that the Ghost is still not being recognised by the insurers as approved...it has not gone through the Thatcham process...
I’m afraid car theft has been going through the roof...you actually need to layer your security unless you want to be a victim...
Fine for those who just rely on an insurance policy...nothing wrong with that but I hate being a victim...on our work vehicles we are now deploying multiple trackers as the criminals are increasingly adept at removing them...

I sort of agree, with what you are saying, the ghost gives piece of mind that they can’t drive away, and a tracker tracks, but they are easily blocked

I don’t think it matters what car you have if they want it they’ll take it, but at least it will be somewhere in between not having anything extra and doing everything possible to prevent it

Steering wheel lock as a visible deterrent also,

But with a ghost it’s a unseen device, do you put the stickers on the windows as a warning or a advert to show them what they need to do, ie come back with a tow truck or me for the code

Hi

Some insurers have tracker requirements for over £40k some are set at £50k and some don't require at all. As a broker we firstly offer you the best price, this would've been with the insurer with a £40k limit. Then we have the option for no tracker but as you say this was at a higher price - the insurers who will happily insure without a tracker are opening themselves to a higher risk of not having the vehicle recovered in the event of a theft, as a result they put a price on that extra risk accordingly.

As mentioned above thefts are on the rise and insurers are aware of this meaning they put these requirements on there when a car is over a certain value, is a known targeted car or it's a vehicle on a driveway for all to see in a less favourable post code for example. The fact that you've already had visitors in the early hours is a prime example of why they want the additional security on the vehicle. The requirements are always set as Thatcham Approved trackers of a certain level - unfortunately there are a lot out there that haven't gone through this process such as the Ghost.

If you pm me your details I can take a look at your specific case and see if there's anything we can do - name, registration and post code.

Insurers always charge a cancellation fee, different insurers have different cancellation processes but all these fees are outlined in your policy wording - some work out cancellation pro rata, some long term and some short term (no return if cancelled after 3 months etc.) but all will charge something.
