Immobiliser switch

Hi all,
Have been thinking about hiding a switch somewhere wired inline with the brake switch. So when I’m parked up click the switch and even with the brake pedal pushed the engine still won’t start.
Anyone done this or a silly idea?
Thanks
Steve

Many on here advocate carrying spare brake switches as they are flaky things at times, so possibly not a good choice of circuit to modify.

I have known people (not Disco owners though ) who modified the fuel pump circuit to starve the fuel supply.

Fit a Ghost immobiliser to do the job properly.... Very Happy

Alternatively find the start inhibit wire behind the fuse panel and put a switch in that line...don’t ask me where it is though...! Very Happy

I used to do stuff like this with my first cars (assorted Fords from the mid to late eighties) with great success.

I’m not sure how well it would work on modern cars with their CAN connections.

I’ve been looking into an Autowatch Ghost immobiliser as a proper version - not cheap but in the grand scheme of things probably worth it for the peace of mind.
 Cheers,

Gareth

Had my D4 stolen a month ago (broke in and stole key while we slept) and not recovered so I am looking at the same thing for the replacement. Have learned expensive lesson that “market value” insurance is a joke.

Yes - I Obviously won’t leave my keys laying around anymore... bla, bla, bla..

Had a similar thread on another forum and will use the following suggested by various members.

Will fit “secret” magnetic switch behind one of the panels. The switch will latch when a small magnet is passed over it. This will be wired in series with the fuel pump. This way even if they steal the keys (or use a scanner) they will only get a couple of blocks and then run out of fuel. Rather that than have them unable to start it at home and then thumping the family.

If I can figure out how to sense it - I will also add a “sound bomb” siren inside the car so that they don’t try torch it out of spite when it runs out of fuel. Create maximum attention / pressure so they will rather run.

For good measure I will also add GPS as a last resort just in case they load it on a truck - but these are easily blocked.

After doing all that my luck is they will never try steal it again anyhow.

Never want to go through this again - besides the $$ the family is devastated and feeling very insecure. To make it worse I have had 3 speeding tickets in the post showing photo’s of the little Censored .

May the b Censored ds rot in hell.
