Help with fitting Brink tow electrics

Hi Folks,
I bought a 13pin Brink tow electrics pack for my D3 so I can tow the trailer. Now normally I can follow instructions pretty well but these ones are confusing me slightly.

As you can see the instructions tell me to fit this “C” piece but I’m not sure of it’s purpose. Then on the next page it tells me to connect the 13pin socket to a piece of metal with lots of fitting holes.

But this confuses me, how am I supposed to put the nuts on if I have the “c” in place :scratches head:

Am I supposed to put the “c” behind the metal of the car?

So I’d still be fitting the socket straight onto the metal, but... eh... then what’s the point of the “c” .

Folks, I feel like I’m being an idiot please tell me what you did and put me out of my misery.

Oh and what way is best to have the cap, lifting up like normal or does the right hole that the sockets are set into cause problems and it’s better off at a different direction.

Thanks for any replies.

Ah thank you, so the cap opens toward the chassis towbar ie flips open to the left?
Now that I’m thinking about it, I wonder if the “C” is to rotate the holes for this universal socket so it sits with the lid opening to the left.
Gawd I wish it wasn’t so cold n dark or I’d be out there playing with it 😁

Lid moves to the right in your pic

They move to the outside.

Well today I managed to get it all done yeh!
So after a little play I decided that the lid opening towards the centre of the car gave me more room for plugging the plug or adapter in so that’s what I went with.

Thanks for the help 👍🏼
