Breakdown Cover
Morning
Just up after 2 hours' sleep - son's car broke down last night and spent 6 hours waiting for the recovery truck from Green Flag.
We were stranded in the town centre of a major conurbation outside Glasgow. The car wasn't repairable at the roadside.
I've got a right to be angry at the wait in tge dark and cold (fortunately we waited in the Disco so were warmish) - but would i be overly hasty in jumping to AA/RAC? Green Flag subcontracts its recovery (I think) whereas AA and RAC havr their own trucks.

I use the AA and always been reached fairly quickly. A lot will depend on how many others have broken down and I'm sure someone will have a bad story about all of them.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Every time I’ve needed recovery in the U.K. the initial response was RAC/AA/GF, however the recovery side was a local subbie.

its been a while but with both D3's when the EBP stuck on, and I was with Greenflag, they were out within a hour collecting me with a recovery truck.
So I cant complain

Thanks again. My anger was fuelled by getting about 2 hours' sleep and being forced to pee behind a bush around 02.00 as there was no other option.
Green Flag kept telling me that strom Brendan was to blame for recovery vehicles being deployed elsewhere, but the vehicle driver told me that there was only one other person covering the nighshift.
The problem was caused by contaminated fuel. Our local Seat garage has drained the tank, checked the sparklplugs and flushed the system and we've topped the Leon up with new fuel. Just glad it's sorted and that I didn't ruin my son's car.

Sorry to hear about the ordeal you went through, that is a long wait time!!
Just so you know we do breakdown cover here at A-Plan if you are thinking about changing at your breakdown renewal which can be bought separately to insurance, it is very good and has a lot of cover including home start, onward journey, recovery, roadside assistance and EU assistance and recovery too... it's also very reasonably priced. Depending on the vehicle and it's usage it could be as little as £44.95 (low use vehicle/classic), £90 for your daily drivers (vehicles under 16 years old) and £115 for daily drivers (vehicles over 16 years old)

Worth considering for the future, many years ago I had the misfortune to break down on the M6 in Cumbria. I live on the south coast in Sussex.
I was with the AA, and their breakdown service is called AA Relay, and that is exactly what I got, relayed from area to area on 4 different trucks!
By the time my car had been pulled up and dragged off 4 times, the damage they had caused cost more to put right than the actual reason for the recovery.
Years later I was recovered from South Wales by Green Flag, and was taken home in one hit by a local recovery firm to where I had broken down.
