Hotel in singapore
We are putting together a plan for our 2021 trip to Australia and New Zealand. We are looking to have a four night stay in Singapore on the way back late February.
We don't want to go over budget on the hotels, the rest of the trip will cost me enough.
I’d be interested in suggestions and personal recommendations to make sure we get a reasonable hotel in a convenient location.
So far I’ve been offered The Miramar, Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Furama Riverfront or the Intercontinental (at an upgrade of £56pn)
Anyone got any experience of these and able to share their opinions. Also, suggestions of things to do , not to miss etc would be very welcome
Thanks in advance.

Intercontinental there is excellent. I’ve stayed there a few times. My favorite is the heritage wing. The interior is early 20th century style and windows open up to a (shopping center) walking street.
Never been at the furama riverfront but I’ve been at city centre. Don’t remember very much of staying there but it’s not on my list of places to avoid either.
Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay is also a good place to stay at like all Novotels. They tend to have more reasonable rates than IHG (IC).
Everything on Sentosa Island is expensive.
Do visit the zoo. There’s a night safari, it’s worth the money.
Clarke quay is full of food places on both sides of the river. Well, Singapore in general is full of food places.
Have fun.

InterCont as per kajtzu. Got it booked in early Apr before we fly up to Hanoi for the GP.
Only other “nice” hotel I’ve stayed in there is the Hyatt but that was over 25 years ago.

I have stayed at both the Park Clark Quay and the Furama Riverfront in the past 3 years and both are OK. The Furama is probably about 10 minutes from Clarke Quay whereas the Park is only a couple. Breakfast is OK at both, with local cuisine as well as European bacon and eggs. If you go for the Park, ask for a high room overlooking the pool.
We also had a couple of nights at the Furama City Centre, which is just across the river from Clarke Quay itself. We were upgraded to a platinum floor room with a tremendous city view towards the Singapore Flyer.
If you find Clarke Quay a bit too full on, try Robertson's Quay which is right next to the Park Hotel and is a bit quieter but still has bars and restaurants. I watched the England S. Africa rugby world cup final there, one of the most disappointing nights of my life.CGA

Absatidellingtootlie. A few brave pills, more from unfamiliarity than any food concerns and the hawker food centres are your go-to scoffing establishments.

Public transport is excellent and cheap. I think contactless debit/credit cards work in the same way as in London, otherwise get an EZ Link card.
We stayed in the Marina Bay Sands for a couple of nights for the view of the anchorage. Apart from the view it’s a big mah.
Re the zoo, we didn’t do the night safari but we did do the most excellent River Safari, seeing our first giant pandas. You get discounts if you book a few bits of the zoo “elements”, but don’t try and do everything, you’ll be jetlagged & knackered.

We stayed up on Orchard Road at the Mandarin Orchard - near a lot of the shopping areas. Was very conveinent for hoping on and off the tube. Also, we upgraded to a Meritus club room, which meant you had access to the club lounge up at the top of teh hotel with great views out over the city, and free refreshements, and no kids allowed up there, so a very nice place for a peacefull breakfast, or free afternoon tea and cakes, or a drink before heading out for the evening
and a must is the Gardens by the Bay, get there early evening and find a lounger or spot where you can lie back, for when the music and lights start up

The long bar is a must. Be prepared to queue for a few minutes and take your credit card S$ 135 for 2 beers and 2 singapore slings October last year. There is a very nice outdoors bar downstairs but its just a expensive and isn't air conditioned.CGA

afternoon tea at raffles is very nice - and ignore the long bar and just have a wander round the building - a very quiet spot was round by the gin bath

I’m currently staying at the Rendezvous Hotel on Bras Basah Road. Booked it up as part of a package with the Flight Centre for a 3 night stop over on our way back from Perth. Clean and tidy, 2 MRT (tube) stations within 2 minutes walk and a stop on the yellow line tour bus directly outside. Considering we didn’t do that much research think it’s been fine for a short stop over.
Just back from a walk around Bugis (Boogie) Street. I visited that area a few times in my Navy days back in the 80’s and it’s changed somewhat over the years. It’s now a market area largely frequented by the locals. Back in the 80’s it used to be slightly different Discovery 4 HSE

thanks for the feedback chaps.
sorry for delay in posting. we've now booked the Park Hotel Clarke Quay, as part of a package including motorhome hire in Australia.
Not going until Feb 2021 but needed to get the motorhome reserved.
we intend to fly into Brisbane for a few days, then tour from Brisbane to Sydney, meandering between coast and inland country (bush!)
Then we have a cruise booked with friends from Sydney to New Zealand, returning from Auckland to Singapore.
In Brisbane and Sydney I only wanted a central base so ive booked in Ibis in both cities.
Should be a good trip. long way off but something to look forward to.Currently 2015 D4 SE Tech, Corris Grey
