I have replaced rear discs and pads without no problem and the rear handbrake shoes were in excellent condition so i left them in situ,i have also done all the adjustments as described on the forum.
Cleaned and used copper grease on the shoes where they sit in the housing as described somewhere on the forum and for the life of me i can't find now and used the same copper grease on the pads.
Tested and all's well and no warning lights, and handbrake works as it should.
Now there is a slight scraping on the nearside, sounds like something is touching the dust protector the sound is not really loud and very tinny and thin and would sound as though you had got a bake bean tin caught up in the wheel or underneath,I know in the past on older cars the dust protector would get bent and rub on the disc causing this slight scraping sound,(this is the sound i have got)but the covers were as good as new and straight.
I have searched the forum before posting and read about other such sounds and people have changed all sorts including the diff, believe me it's not that sort of sound.
So any suggestions would be appreciated
Pete

Fitting new pads may cause problems with caliper pistons.
After a drive see if left wheel is hotter than right.
Or Maybe adjust the passenger shoes again thru the hole.

Ok
Do you think it might be the shoes brushing over the top of the disc drum,or caliper not coming right off causing slight rubbing of the pads
Nice one
Younger days I would have thought of that.
Will let you know the result at some time
Thanks

Agree with previous post tbh. I've got a similar issue myself. New pads a few weeks ago checked existing disk and all seemed fine no real lip etc not the disk is about scrap. I will have to replace the caliper and disk now I fear

It's got to be something so simple and right in front of your face so to speak because it was not there before I done the disc/pads.
As for calipers take them off a good clean and soak to get the pistons working smoothly works wonders and only cost your time, give it a go.
Good luck

calipers only cost about £50 each and are known to be troublesome on these.
If the piston isn't moving freely or you are getting excessive heat on one side, replace it.
Shoes can also give problems if the lever connected to the cable isn't lubricated (at the pivot point on the shoe)

Could be a broken shoe retaining spring. I had this. The loose bits or the shoe tipping slightly caused the noise.

Over the weekend I replaced the damaged disc and found the caliper seized solid. Bought a replacement from Rimmers as was expecting this. All sorted now and she stops like new again!
