[Wanted] XY Sensor Manual Gearbox |
|
I'm after a used working XY sensor to see if mine is faulty or not. Bit wary of spending nearly £200 to find it doesn't solve my issues. Anyone got one kicking about?

what symptoms you get cos xyz sensor goes out of sync due to clutch slip unless it is really at fault which IIDTool or similar scan could confirm
I had one replaced on old bus for no reason although cluthc was on the way out slipping especially when booting it on higher gears

Ah, it's none of those. A wire got damaged during a clutch change. It's all back together, but it only reports as n or r, no gears detected, even during a recalibration both with iidtool, or on road, going through gears.

so I guess you need to fix harness to the sensor rather then sensor itself
looks like whoever said it was fixed lied
good luck

Did you purchase a XY sensor in the end?
I've been quoted 180 for the sensor and another 300+ for installing Discovery3 TDV6 GS

Yes I stumped up and bought one in the end. I just say managed to fit it without removing the gearbox. You have to unbolt the gear stick inside and remove the traction dial panel. Then you can remove both props and the gearbox support beam, and then carefully lower the gearbox down until you can get your hands over the top. Very fiddly but do able! I held the star/torx bit in the bolts with one hand, and used a small spanner to turn the bit with my other hand.
Once it was reprogrammed by doing the reverse then drive through gears, everything works fine again

That's excellent news, I don't suppose you have any photos
Where did you purchase the sensor as there is 180 -220 prices and want to make sure I get the correct part. Discovery3 TDV6 GS

I got mine from Rimmerbros, wasn't cheap, but it was the proper Land Rover one.
No pictures as you can't actually see anything, you have to lie on a trolley, and put both your hands up either side of the gearbox. It's all done via touch, with your legs pointing towards the back of the disco, your right hand will find the plug side of the sensor, which you need to pull out, then there is two bolts to remove.
Make sure you have a good fitting torx/star bit, one of my bolts had started to round and took a good battle to get it out.

Cheers buddy much appreciated
I'm more concerned with getting to the sensor (dropping the GB) rather than replacing the actual sensor itself in all honesty.
I will give it a go at some point unless I can find someone to do it alot cheaper than my first quote. Discovery3 TDV6 GS
