Glass pieces in upper tailgate

Had my rear window replaced some months ago. The technician could not remove the busted bits of glass from the upper tailgate which results in the glass rattleing on opening and when hitting bumps on the road.
Not that this is an emergency but a good Lockdown task for today.
Looking for instuctions on how to get a vacuum into the void in the upper TG.

Try starting with looking at https://frontrunner.thirdlight.com/file/42480571776 and you’ll see how to remove the bigger plastic panels from the upper tailgate. I haven’t stripped more of it than what those instructions say but most of them connected just with plastic tabs. I’d imagine the rest are held in place similarly.

Not sure if a Haynes manual would tell you more... the pictures in them are absolutely awful.

Thumbs Up

Correct, changed out my upper Tailgate on my D3 three weeks ago and had to move all trim and the wiper motor to the newer Tailgate...
1. Remove screw from inner close handle/grip (the only screw you need to remove).
2. Remove trim piece around lock catch (pull the rubber to a 45 degree angle to get trim off).
3. Pull the trim off using the handle until you can get your hand underneath (yellow clips on the bottom, metal middle/top).

If you need to you would then pull the top trim off followed by the sides (all yellow clips).

Hope this helps Thumbs Up it's not a bad job, but you may start to curse a bit as up bend a few clips trying to align to get it back together...

Thanks

So went about this yesterday, removed the plastic trim pieces, license plate light assm, and the wind screen wiper motor, for some needed access to the inner space where the glass bits were. After much trying with a mini shop vac I was unable to reach the pieces.
So I took out my handy Land Rover unapproved tool, (Wire Coat Hanger) and placed some duct tape on the bent end of it. I stuck the hanger in and around the bottom inner space and shook the tailgate while jimmying the hanger back and forth. Bit by bit pieces by piece I was able to remove the glass pieces and now I am happy to report my upper TG is sound free, at least the glass roiling around in it.
Was only about 10 pieces but it sounded like more.

Thanks all for the guides, hope everyone is doing well and healthy.
Went to Walmart last night with my face mask and gloves and you would have though I was mosses, as everyone was avoiding me like I had the plague. People on this side of the pond don't still realize what protection looks like, they all though I was sick.

Glad to hear you got it fixed, Ruper Thumbs Up

I have something in the front of the cabin that resonates every now and then and it annoys the Censored out of me. Pinpointing it is difficult and whether it resonates or not seems to depend on temperature.. or maybe the phase of moon Mr. Green
