Hi
Last week two chavs tried to steal my 2015 Discovery 4. They broke the passenger side window, which has now been replaced. As far as I know, the alarm did not sound - it was not going when they were spotted by a neighbour and made their escape.
The car locks/unlocks as it should, but I get the 'Smart Key Not Found - Refer to Handbook' message when I try to start the car. Following the procedure on page 90 of the handbook (holding the key against the bottom of the steering column) allows the car to start, but I do not get a 'Smart Key Recognised' message and have to follow this procedure each time to start the car.
All the settings appear to have reset too - so I get audio/visual dash warning when the doors are opened, for example, where this was previously not the case. There was also a distinct smell of unburned diesel when I started it up for the first time in a week.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Simon

This doesn't sound like a good idea to me...

Re your alarm not going off, Just checking that you press the fob lock button twice as this activates the internal sensors and super lock on the D4. Pretty sure that's correct. D3 is opposite way around with 1 push for super lock. Stu

I can't say that I always was pressing it twice as a routine, and to be honest on the night of the attempted theft I can't be sure I had.

The question in my mind is 'if you short out the main battery leads after disconnection from the main battery are you effectively also shorting out the stop/start battery??' .

If the car locks and unlocks and starts but doesn not recognise the key is most likely antena fault.
Try to put the key on the back seat and attempt to start it will give you the answer if its single antena at fault or antenas ( more likely wiring issue than) The Old rangies do not go mad, they mad go

Thanks for all the suggestions. In the end the garage fitted a new module and I had to get 2 new keys which needed programming. About a grand all in.
