Heated Wheel...

Sorry if this is already posted somewhere but I haven't been able to find it...

I Have a 2013 MY HSE produced before the facelift to 13.5 MY and am thinking of putting on a Heated Steering Wheel

Does anyone know what the situation is with the wheel controller and switching.

Would a later wheel fit and work assuming the clockspring was a heated one?

Id appreciate if anyone knows.

Thanks

Thumbs Up

I dont think it would.

I've tried and failed to get a 4.5 wheel in to my D3 with the BBS boards and it just ain't happening!

I can see why there would be an issue fitting to the D3 as the comms has to be replaced by the boards and firmware on them and will be specific to the protocols they were designed for, but as my car is a 13 Model year I just wonder what changed and when to stop the communications working

I'm not sure what a 4.5 wheel is but it's documented that a wheel with the new type heated module will not work in a D3

With regards the MY13 it might be a case of trial and error if no ones done it before Question

Summers Here - time for a heated Steering Wheel Question....

well finally found a heated wheel, that is from a 2011 RRS so will be able to find out soon enough, clockspring is on the way from a D4 that had heated wheel - just debating shall I have the wheel retrimmed first or wait till Ive tested it on the car...

Incidentally does anyone know if the adaptive cruise buttons can be removed from the L/Hand switch pack on the wheel or do I just have to pretend they aren't there...

Hi Darrind

I've done this change successfully, it is written here:

Not straight forwards as one would think, but it has worked well for me!

You can remove the adaptive cruise buttons but the cowl on the back is not a separate item so you would need to buy a wheel with no adaptive cruise fitted or find someone who wanted to swap rare as rocking horse Censored they are

Fortunately there are blanking inserts on the standard wheel design to cover the two switch areas on the rear cowl so I will either fit an off the shelf one once the adaptive cruise buttons are removed, or perhaps look at the price of the RRS Adaptive radar unit and ancillaries - if the loom is there on the car this might be an interesting option Very Happy If neither works out I will print a blanking plate and just forget it was there Smile
Just waiting for the squab to arrive to test the wheel function.

A few have tried to fit it on disco's and failed some have done but taken a lot of messing around but something to do with alignment i believe. On the wheels i have bought the back cowl's had the holes marked to cut out so when i fitted a older wheel and fitted the phone button's that's what i did but when i fitted them to my sport i asked the daughters boy friend who work's for JLR and he could not find any thing on there system the cowl came with the wheel and you either bought the wheel with adaptive and paddles or without and such so would be interested in those blanks Thumbs Up
