"Transmission Fault Limited Gears Available" |
|
I have the below issues with the D3 2005 Auto
1) Transmission fault limited gears available
2) HDC fault system not available
3) Special programs off
4) "F" displayed on the dash with various amber lights
I've taken this to my local independent who ive used for years and its got them stumped.
They've checked the TCCM module, the cables by the NSR strut, generally gone through the vehicle, the last attempt was Autologic remotely accessing the car and noting there was an EGR valve fault that always put the car into fault, so they blanked off both EGR valves and it seemed to do the trick, they used it daily for 2 days and no problems, I collected Friday evening and did a couple of local trips then a 50 mile round trip inc switching it on and off, it sat over night, started fine Saturday morning, moved it 100 yds, all fine, went back to it 2hrs later and then the "F" returned with all the same faults as before!
I should mention once the fault is in place the car will move forward at 1mph only!
I switched the car off and on a few times and it came back to life, but drove 100yds and the problem occurred whilst moving.
So its waiting to be collected but thought it was worth an ask on here.
Any guidance appreciated.
It also had a very expensive new battery as part of this process.

You need to get the fault codes read, can’t understand why EGR’s would course a transmission fault? Steve

All fault codes where read, however the number of faults that came up where as long as your arm!
All cambus related, hence Autologic remotely reading the codes and highlighting EGR valve issues 100% of the time sending into fault mode...

EGR fault don't cause any of those error messages.
I should mention the MAP sensor in the middle of the engine Y intake, does cause a similar list of faults.
So if you want to go parts cannon..... and cheaper than EGR!

A weak battery or battery connection issues can throw up all sorts of codes. Might be worth trying a fresh battery and check connections / earthing etc.

Is this another one where the phantom brake switch or even brake bulb can be the cause. Im fairly sure the main dash display mine threw when I had a blown brake bulb were Transmission related. If it is the brake switch then its just on the way out and starting to send od messages down the electrics.
If the OP has a search there are various tales of this being a possible issue and its cheap/easy enough to be worth a try.
The other one is possible binding of the gear selector. Mine had that and whilst it didn't throw codes it was shifting badly. It started as intermittent and was gradually losing full rotation. Its alos failry inexpensive parts/effort so worth a try if you end up looking for ideas. Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

Has there been liquid spilt on the centre console as the connecter under there could give similar problems.
